Fans of the hit show Yellowstone are eagerly awaiting its return to the air.

But no one is quite sure when or even if that will happen, as the second half of its fifth and final season has been repeatedly delayed for over a year and a half due to internal turmoil.

And Yellowstone star Lainey Wilson made this shocking confession about the show’s future.

Part one of the Paramount Network smash hit Yellowstone’s fifth and final season aired in January of last year.

The show was supposed to take a short break before releasing the final half of its final season last November, but production has still yet to begin on those final episodes after numerous delays as a result of the actors’ and writers’ strikes in Hollywood, and internal turmoil caused by the show’s star, Kevin Costner, seemingly losing all interest in continuing to be part of show creator Taylor Sheridan’s iconic series.

Costner claimed his issues revolve around a supposed scheduling conflict with the filming of his upcoming western, Horizon, which has led to an internal battle with Yellowstone creator Taylor Sheridan and caused many to question whether Costner will even be part of the second part of season five.

Now, fans are wondering what’s coming next for one of the most beloved series on television.

Yellowstone star talks about the show’s conclusion

Country music star Lainey Wilson made her acting debut on Yellowstone, playing a familiar role as Abby, who also happens to be a country music singer, on the show in season 5.

Fox News questioned her about the show’s future while she was walking the red carpet at the 2024 iHeartRadio Music Awards.

But Wilson is apparently being left in the dark just like everyone else.

“I’m still waiting to find out what’s happening with Yellowstone, ” Wilson said. “I have absolutely no clue. I did talk to Kelly Reilly [who plays Beth Dutton] the other day, and you know, we’ll see what happens.”

“Once they give us the call – we’re there,” she added.

Yellowstone’s connection to country music

The series set in Montana has a natural connection with country music, the Western lifestyle, and the working-class Americans who keep both alive today.

Wilson said that Yellowstone has given country music and the Western lifestyle a boost because of its popularity.

“I love what they’ve done for the Western way of life,” Wilson explained. “I love what they’ve done for country music. I think it was really perfect timing for me and what I do, too, because it’s kind of like they might make country music cool again.”

“I’m not saying that it wasn’t,” she continued. “I mean, it’s always been cool to me, but if you get on TikTok, you see all the kids wearing cowboy hats and listening to country music and it’s kind of become more of a pop culture thing, which is really neat to see because, I mean, that’s the way of life that I grew up with.”

Country songs have been featured on the show since its first episode, and as a result, artists who’ve been featured numerous times in the show, like country music artist Zach Bryan and Ryan Bingham, have seen their popularity take off from the exposure.

Playing the role of Walker in Yellowstone gave Bingham a bigger spotlight for his music, and actor Luke Grimes, who plays the role of Kayce Dutton, used the fame he’s amazed from the show to kickstart a country music career of his own.

Yellowstone brought newfound attention to a lifestyle and music that is usually demonized and diminished by Hollywood.
