Fans have been wondering if Kevin Costner would return to Yellowstone.

He finally addressed the rumors about his situation.

And Kevin Costner broke his silence on Yellowstone’s future with this surprising message.

The Paramount Network series Yellowstone is supposed to wrap its run as one of the most popular and influential shows on television later this fall, with the airing of the second part of the show’s fifth and final season.

But of course, the show has yet to even begin production on the second half of the final season, as it has been repeatedly pushed back for nearly a year and a half after the show’s star Actor, Kevin Costner, demanded that his already heavily condensed filming schedule be cut even more to allow him to take part in what he calls his “passion project,” leaving the rest of the cast and crew – not to mention fans – completely hanging.

In fact, whether or not Costner even participates in the show’s remaining episodes is still a total mystery, as the show’s Creator, Taylor Sheridan, has seemingly bent as far as he’s willing to bend to accommodate Costner’s demands.

Kevin Costner talks about Yellowstone’s conclusion

Costner was in Las Vegas for CinemaCon to promote the two-part movie he starred in and directed, Horizon: An American Saga, which will be released this summer.

He sat down with Entertainment Tonight for an interview in which he answered the question that’s been on the minds of Yellowstone fans – will his character, John Dutton, be back for the series conclusion?

“I’d like to be able to do it, but we haven’t been able to – I’m not sure how it’s being worked out,” Costner said, alluding to the fact that without him, the character will likely now simply be killed off randomly in some way, completely ruining the storyline the series has been building up for years.

“I’ve loved making that series,” he claimed. “I made five seasons of it. I thought I was going to make seven [seasons] but right now we’re at five. So how it works out – I hope it does – but they’ve got a lot of different shows going on. Maybe it will. Maybe this will circle back to me. If it does and I feel really comfortable with [it], I’d love to do it.”

And he has some ideas for the series about how the show could finish his character’s story.

“Well, you know, he needs to be proactive in what happens and I’ve kind of had my own fantasy of how it might be,” Costner stated. “But that’s Taylor’s thing. I said as much to him a while back. I had thoughts [about] how it could happen, but we just have to see.”

Costner’s passion project took priority over Yellowstone

Costner has been working on the concept for Horizon – an epic about the settlement of the American West – since 1988.

And over the past few years, he’s increasingly requested to reduce his filming schedule with Yellowstone more and more to spend more time working on Horizon.

Despite demanding to work less and less on the show he had a prior commitment to, Costner also threatened to sue the show’s producers over money he now claims they owe him.

“I couldn’t help them anymore,” Costner claimed at the time. “We tried to negotiate, but they offered me less money than previous seasons, there were issues with the creative.”

Of course, when you’re demanding to work less, it would seem only natural to most working-class Americans that you be paid less – that’s kind of how that works for everyone outside of the elites.

With Kevin Costner making his decision and refusing to budge, only time will tell how the Yellowstone sage finally ends.
