Adam Sandler’s comedies are among the few movies in Hollywood that haven’t gotten sequels.

Now one of the biggest movies of his legendary career could finally be on the list.

And Adam Sandler let the cat out of the bag on this comedy classic getting a sequel.

The rumors have been flying that Adam Sandler’s 1996 comedy classic Happy Gilmore could be getting a long-awaited sequel.

Actor Christopher McDonald, who played Shooter McGavin in the film, told a radio station in Cleveland last month that Sandler had shown him a first draft of a Happy Gilmore 2 script.

More fuel was added to the fire when sports radio legend Dan Patrick – a longtime friend of Sandler, who has made cameos in a number of his films – confirmed on his radio show that he had exchanged texts with the actor that confirmed the sequel was a go.

Adam Sandler lets fans know what’s happening with a Happy Gilmore sequel

With rumors swirling about Happy Gilmore 2, Sandler appeared on The Dan Patrick Show to discuss what was going on with the rumored sequel.

“We’re working on it, me and (Tim) Herlihy are diligently trying to make a good reason for everyone to watch and have a good time. Netflix is excited about it,” Sandler said. “We’ve got some good ideas.”

Sandler and Herlihy were college roommates and have collaborated throughout their careers, co-writing classics like Happy Gilmore, Billy Madison, The Wedding Singer, The Waterboy, Big Daddy, Mr. Deeds, Grown Ups, The Longest Yard, Click, and many more.

Patrick pitched himself as a potential replacement for the late Price is Right host Bob Barker in the film.

Happy Gilmore famously gets into an all-out brawl with Barker – who played himself in the film – on the golf course in the movie.

Patrick also suggested current Price is Right host Drew Carey as another possible Barker replacement.

“I would love Drew Carey to be in this movie out of respect to Bob,” Sandler said. “When we were writing stuff, Bob was alive. When we were writing stuff, Carl Weathers was alive. When we were writing stuff, Joe Flaherty was alive. It sucks, we love those guys. They were such a big part of the movie and just great people. But we’re going to get them involved somehow. They’ll be involved.”

Weathers, who played Chubbs, and Flaherty, who played a fan who heckled Gilmore, both passed away this year.

Happy Gilmore is mad at Shooter McGavin

Sandler roasted McDonald for letting the cat out of the bag on the sequel on the radio.

“He texted me after the fact, ‘By the way, that thing you told me not to talk about, I talked about it.’ Well that’s good. I did stand up, I did a comedy special, and a lot of my buddies came by and Shooter was one of them,” Sandler said. And I said, ‘Dude, we’ve been talking about a Happy 2 and we’re working on some stuff.’ That’s all I told Shooter, and said, ‘Don’t tell anybody.’ Then he kept it mostly private, he told a couple of DJs about it. They’re usually great at secrets.”

Fans will be hoping that Sandler can recreate the comedy magic of the first film in Happy Gilmore 2.
