McDonald’s couldn’t ignore the outcry from fans any longer.
They listened, and soon fast-food lovers will be cheering.
And that’s because McDonald’s is bringing back this fan-favorite menu item after massive demand.
Chicken nuggets are always one of the most popular – and kid-friendly – items on any fast-food restaurant’s menu.
Chicken McNuggets are no exception.
But McDonald’s was lagging behind its competitor, Wendy’s, with a lack of a spicy option.
Wendy’s spicy chicken nuggets are one of the best-selling items at the chain, and it appeared they had the market cornered.
Now, McDonald’s is bringing back their Spicy Chicken McNuggets.
Spicy nugs are back at McDonald’s
McDonald’s began rolling out Spicy Chicken McNuggets at select locations around the country starting in late March.
“Spice-loving McDonald’s fans, you’re in luck – because our Spicy Chicken McNuggets are returning to the menu in select local markets. Breaded in a crispy tempura coating and flavorfully spiced with a blend of cayenne and chili pepper, they bring an extra kick of heat to the classic McNuggets you know and love. The Spicy Chicken McNuggets will be available starting March 25, for a limited time only at participating restaurants,” a statement from McDonald’s read.
The Spicy McNuggets became a fan favorite after they were first released in 2020 for a limited run, making the first addition to the McNuggets lineup since they were launched more than 40 years ago.
And they were brought back again in 2023 for a limited time, to the delight of fans looking for a little heat.
Fans started online petitions to make them a permanent addition to McDonald’s menu.
When they were first released in 2020, they were sold out in a matter of weeks because of the overwhelming demand.
Satisfying burn of the Spicy McNuggets
Time Out’s Morgan Olsen wrote a review of the Spicy McNuggets where they were first launched in 2020 that said they were crunchier than the original version.
“The first thing I noticed is that these nuggets wear a reddish-hued shell that’s slightly sturdier and crunchier than their plain counterpart (a bonus in my book). That tempura coating is seasoned with cayenne and chili peppers, which ignites your taste buds with a subtle but satisfying burn,” Olsen wrote.

The King has had ghost pepper nuggets and fiery nuggets on limited runs over the years.
Now fans are crossing their fingers that this time, McDonald’s will listen to them and make the Spicy Chicken McNuggets a permanent addition to the menu.
