New York City’s Democrat Mayor is facing an organized revolt.

One of his policies is threatening to destroy a city’s tradition.

And Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez was speechless after New Yorkers protested for this shocking reason.

New York City’s oldest, most well-known, family-owned pizzerias are under threat from New York Democrats’ latest stringent regulation to curb carbon emissions.

Restaurants that use coal or wood-fired ovens are facing a crackdown because of the war against climate change.

New York City pizza is in jeopardy

Some of the most historic, top-rated pizzerias in New York City still use the original coal-fired ovens their predominantly immigrant ancestors first used to bake their signature slices.

But this traditional way of pizza making is coming under threat because of Democrats’ environmental extremist agenda.

The Democrat-controlled New York City Department of Environmental Protection unilaterally issued a new rule designed to reduce carbon emissions from coal and wood-fired ovens by more than 70%.

Ovens that were installed before 2016 would have to be outfitted with pricey emissions control systems to reduce the amount of pollution they emit.

These pollution control systems can cost more than $20,000, putting family-owned restaurants and their decades-old pizza-making process at risk.

Paulie Gee’s owner, Paul Giannone, told the New York Post that these systems would be an ongoing expense for restaurants after paying a big upfront cost.

“Oh yeah, it’s a big expense,” Giannone said. “It’s not just the expense of having it installed, it’s the maintenance. I got to pay somebody to do it, to go up there every couple of weeks and hose it down and you know do the maintenance.”

Of all the small businesses, restaurants run on some of the thinnest profit margins imaginable due to continuously skyrocketing food and labor costs.

That’s why adding another major expense could push some pizzerias to the brink.

New Yorkers protest for their pizza

Restaurant owners are hoping that the city reserves the rule before it goes into effect in late April.

Artist Scott LoBaido protested on the sidewalk outside of City Hall in New York City by taking slices of pizza and chucking them over the fence onto the lawn.

New York police arrested him for protesting the city’s war on pizzerias in a video that went viral on social media.

“That a boy, Scott. Yeah!” a person shouted while he was being arrested.

LoBaido told the police that he was throwing the slices of pizza on the lawn to feed the pigeons.

“It’s only supposed to be a ticket for littering. You’re not supposed to get arrested,” a person shouted in the video.

Another person yelled that the city’s Democrat Mayor was corrupt.

“Illegal [aliens] are coming in and murdering people, but we’re getting arrested?” a protester shouted at the police.

Democrat-controlled New York City is on the verge of sacrificing an essential part of its culture to appease the extreme environmental movement.
