James Bond is one of the most iconic characters in movie history.

The search for the next actor to portray him on the silver screen could be completed.

And this surprising pick was offered the role of being the next James Bond.

The search for the next James Bond

Actor Daniel Craig wrapped his stint portraying James Bond with 2021’s No Time to Die.

He starred in five films in the long-running 007 franchise, beginning with Casino Royale in 2006.

Eon Productions – the British production company behind the franchise – has been searching for a replacement for Craig for years.

Rumors swirled about what they could do with the next installment of the spy franchise.

Former Bond actors Pierce Brosnan and Craig said it was time for a woman to play 007.

A report circulated that black British actress Lashana Lynch – who starred as Nomi in the franchise – was on the very short list of producer Barbara Broccoli to take over the role, according to reports from the United Kingdom.

Other actors like Cillian Murphy, Idris Elba, Henry Cavill, and James Norton were mentioned as top contenders for the part.

Offer sent out to British actor for the role of James Bond

Eon Productions zeroed in on their choice to take over the role of James Bond, according to a report.

They offered British actor Aaron Taylor-Johnson the part, according to The Sun – a British tabloid newspaper.

“Bond is Aaron’s job, should he wish to accept it. The formal offer is on the table and they are waiting to hear back,” a source told The Sun. “As far as Eon is concerned, Aaron is going to sign his contract in the coming days and they can start preparing for the big announcement.”

The 33-year-old British actor is best known for his role as Dave Lizewski in the Kick-A** franchise and for starring in Bullet Train.

Eon Productions didn’t respond to the speculation, telling Deadline that if they responded to every rumor about the next Bond, they wouldn’t have time for anything else.

Taylor-Johnson didn’t deny having an interest in becoming the next 007 during an interview with fashion magazine Numéro.

“I find it charming and wonderful that people see me in that role. I take it as a great compliment,” Taylor-Johnson said.

If he takes the part, he would be the ninth actor to portray the famous fictional spy in the franchise, following legends like Sean Connery and Roger Moore.

The question of who the next James Bond could be finally answered after years of speculation.
