The Democrat Party just handed its future to people who have never held a real job.
Jesse Watters watched it happen in real time – and on The Five, he told viewers exactly how it ends.
What Watters predicted next is the one thing the Democrat Party doesn't want figured out yet.
Democrat Civil War Brewing as DSA Primaries Shock the Establishment
Socialists knocked off Democrat incumbents in New York and Colorado, and a first-time candidate swept the Maine Senate primary – and establishment Democrats didn't fight back. They opened the door.
Jesse Watters laid out the calculation party leaders are making right now: accommodate the socialist wing and let them prove themselves in the midterms.
If the socialist candidates lose in November, the establishment blames them and a full Democrat civil war erupts.
If they win, it's Kumbaya – the establishment loses its argument slowly instead of all at once.
That's the trap.
Either outcome ends with the establishment losing control of the party it spent decades building.
And while all that plays out, Kamala Harris is already making her move.
Kamala Harris Courts DSA Socialists Ahead of 2028 Primary
Harris has been quietly reaching out to New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani – the socialist power broker whose endorsed candidates swept Democrat congressional primaries last week – and to Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez.
Mamdani confirmed the outreach himself.
"The vice president reached out to have a conversation," he said, "and we've had a brief conversation."
Republican National Committee chair Joe Gruters read the situation clearly: "The fact that she's courting people like Mamdani, these socialists and communists – it goes back to the radical leftists, because the Democrats are in big trouble as a party."
The 2028 Democrat presidential primary lands barely a year after the midterms wrap up.
Anyone who wants that nomination will need the socialist wing's organizers – and that means paying the ransom first.
Watters put it plainly: "So it's her or Newsom."
Whoever makes the deal with the socialists first wins the primary and drags the entire country into the experiment with them.
DSA Candidates Watters Called Out by Name
Watters didn't stop at strategy – he went after the candidates themselves.
"They're professional students," he said. "They're all in debt. They don't earn anything. A lot of them don't even own anything."
Watters named names: Texas state Rep. James Talarico, Maine Senate candidate Graham Platner, and the socialist candidates in Colorado and New York – calling the current wave "all pathetic people."
In Colorado, socialist Melat Kiros ousted 15-term Democrat incumbent Diana DeGette and made her intentions explicit on camera: "The only way we get Medicare For All passed is by getting rid of the Democrats that are actively standing in that way."
These aren't fringe protesters.
They are now the Democrat Party's primary winners, commandeering the party apparatus in district after district.
Watters' diagnosis was blunt: their appeal comes from shared failure. "If no one else has worked hard, you can point to someone and say, oh, he gets me."
His prescription was even blunter: "You get a job, you get married, you start earning a living, and then you have skin in the game."
The Last Democrat Socialist Takeover Ended With Nixon Winning 49 States
The last time radicals seized control of the Democrat Party, the establishment cut its losses and walked.
In 1972, antiwar insurgents ousted the party establishment, nominated George McGovern on a platform of guaranteed minimum income and immediate Vietnam withdrawal, and then watched establishment Democrats – including labor unions and big-city machines – either sit out the election or vote for Nixon.
McGovern himself later admitted: "I opened the doors of the Democratic Party and 20 million people walked out."
The socialist candidates winning today are running on platforms further Left than anything McGovern proposed.
And this time, unlike 1972, even some Democrats who should be fellow travelers are sounding the alarm.
Sen. John Fetterman, one of the party's few remaining working-class voices, posted the bluntest condemnation in the Senate: "Anti-Israel. Anti-America. Anti-Western Civilization. Why am I the only Democrat in the U.S. Senate that refuses to excuse this or defend any of those self-identified communists?"
Bill Maher said the party is "well on their way" to blowing the midterms.
The 2026 Midterms Could Hand Socialists Real Power
If the socialist wing loses in November, the Democrat Party implodes, the establishment spends two years pointing fingers, and the 2028 primary becomes a demolition derby.
If the socialist wing wins in November, Kamala Harris or Gavin Newsom arrives at the 2028 primary already indebted to candidates who want to eliminate the Senate, defund the War Department, strip judicial review from the Supreme Court, and extend voting rights to non-citizens and convicted felons – that is the actual DSA platform.
The 1972 version of this ended with Nixon winning 49 states.
The 2028 version of this ends with people who have never run a business, never met a payroll, and never built anything holding real power – while the people who handed it to them pretend they had no choice.
Americans who lived through 1972 know exactly where this road ends.
