Democrats spent America's 250th birthday writing a 55-page attack report instead of celebrating.
Then the chairman of the House Oversight Committee decided it was time to respond.
His response is something Democrats did not want said out loud.
Democrats Dropped a 55-Page Report on Freedom 250 While America Celebrated
House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer went on Fox News to blast the new low Democrats hit over July 4th weekend.
"[Democrats] would rather Donald Trump fail and America fail than celebrate the success of our founding fathers and the fact that we are the greatest nation on the planet," Comer said.
This came after Rep. Jared Huffman of California – the top Democrat on the House Natural Resources Committee – released a 55-page report accusing Trump of hijacking the America 250 celebration for his political and religious agenda.
While tens of millions of Americans were watching the largest fireworks display in U.S. history light up Washington, D.C., House Democrats were shopping their opposition research to the press.
Huffman's report targets Freedom 250 – the organization Trump created to lead America's 250th birthday celebrations.
Democrats allege Freedom 250 steered donor money away from the bipartisan commission Congress created, funneled contracts to Trump allies, and sold access to the president.
Freedom 250 spokesperson Danielle Alvarez called the report "nothing more than a partisan smear from politicians who would rather manufacture division than celebrate America's 250th birthday alongside the rest of the country."
House Oversight Committee Chair Comer Puts Democrats on Notice Before November
Comer was direct about what a Democrat House majority actually means for the country.
"I think that all they're going to do if they flip the House and become the majority in the House is investigate and harass Donald Trump," Comer said.
He wasn't guessing.
Rep. Adelita Grijalva of Arizona told MS NOW on Friday she fully expects a congressional investigation of America 250 if Democrats win the House in November.
"I believe it will be [investigated]," Grijalva said.
There's your midterm ballot test – two years of congressional oversight on the economy, border security, and government spending, or two more years of congressional investigations into Donald Trump.
"We are investigating waste, fraud and abuse. That's what the Oversight Committee is about," he said.
Republicans currently investigating real government corruption.

Comer pointed out something Democrats keep proving by accident.
Trump's celebration mentioned Christianity.
Democrats put that in a 55-page report as an accusation.
"President Trump made the focus about honoring our heroes and being proud to be an American, and all the Democrats want to do is say, 'If you vote for us, we'll investigate Trump for wasting money on an independent celebration that, by the way, mentioned Christianity, even though our country was founded by people seeking freedom of religion,'" Comer said.
America's founders fled religious persecution.
They built a country where faith wasn't suppressed – it was protected.
Democrats treated a prayer gathering on the National Mall as a scandal.
This is not a party that reflects the values of most Americans.
This is a party that thinks faith is something to put in a congressional report.
Democrats Vow to Investigate Trump If They Win the House Majority in November
This isn't the first time Democrats have tried to weaponize a national milestone against Trump.
The same playbook ran through the first term – use the machinery of congressional oversight not to investigate government waste, but to generate negative headlines about the White House.
Instead of attacking Trump's tax returns or Ukraine phone calls, Democrats have moved on to attacking his decision to celebrate America's birthday in a big, loud, patriotic way.
"We are the greatest nation in the history of the world," Comer said. "Anyone can become anything in America because of the sacrifices of our founding fathers, the sacrifices of our soldiers, the sacrifices of our American heroes, and that's what last night was all about."
November is coming.
Democrats spent the week of America's 250th birthday producing a report about Christianity on the National Mall.
That's not a party worried about winning swing voters in November.
That's a party telling you exactly who they are.
