Democrat-controlled California is the national leader in trying to force drivers into electric vehicles.

But there’s one major obstacle that is going to shut this scheme down.

And Gavin Newsom was reduced to tears when he got this bad news about electric vehicles.

California’s electric vehicle ambitions will be done in by green energy

California Governor Gavin Newsom and his fellow Democrats have gone to great lengths to force Democrats’ extreme Green New Deal policies on the state.

The unelected left-wing bureaucrats who make up the California Air Resources Board voted in 2022 to ban the sale of new gasoline-powered vehicles in the state by 2035.

Governor Newsom vowed at the time that the Golden State would “lead the revolution towards our zero-emission transportation future.”

One week after announcing the gasoline-powered car ban, California warned residents not to charge their EVs due to the fact that the state’s electric grid was already totally maxed out amidst a heatwave, causing massive blackouts.

The state has been phasing out reliable fossil fuel-generated power for unreliable green energy sources, like wind and solar.

That’s why the state’s electrical grid is on the verge of collapse – green energy simply can’t provide the state, much less the nation, with the amount of energy needed to avoid a total collapse of civilization.

California wants to bring millions of new electric vehicles onto the roads while its electric grid is buckling under the strain of the current demand.

“This is not something that’s affordable or sustainable to scale this up on a society-wide basis, or even a statewide basis within the state of California,” Energy Analyst David Blackmon said about the mass electrification of transportation.

To accommodate millions of new electric vehicles, the Democrat-controlled state will have to make major, taxpayer-funded improvements to its electrical grid.

Now, the staggering cost of that undertaking is being revealed.

California must spend $20 billion to upgrade its electric grid to handle more electric vehicles

A study by the University of California, Berkeley found that California would need to spend up to $20 billion in taxpayer money – although, far likely much more considering the fact that it’s a government-run project – to upgrade its energy grid to meet the demands of Democrats’ plan to force every driver in the state into an EV.

“This widespread adoption of EVs in the future will lead to a large growth in electricity charging load, which will contribute to challenges in the operation and planning of the power system,” the study’s authors wrote in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences.

The authors said that urban areas would be the first places to see the grid begin to strain from the new electric vehicles.

California currently has about 10,000 fast, public electric charging stations with plans to add at least 30,000 more.

“The study’s author estimates that by 2035, 50% of ‘feeder’ transmission lines will be ‘overloaded by EV charging demand,’ a figure that will grow to 67% by 2045. They say the cost of upgrading transmission lines for EVs could cost $6 to $20 billion, or about 10% to 40% of the current transmission system,” The Center Square reported.

The study doesn’t take into account the fact that Democrats are also pushing for the electrification of common household appliances, like furnaces, water heaters, and stoves, and virtually everything else that uses fossil fuels to generate energy.

California is currently out of money with a $58 budget deficit despite having one of the highest tax burdens in the country.

Democrats’ electric vehicle mandates will either bankrupt the state or collapse its electric grid.
