The media told America for years that Barack Obama was uniquely scandal-free.
Then a Bush spokesman sat down next to Obama's own strategist on CNN and blew that up.
What Pete Seat said to Axelrod's face on live television is something Democrats have spent years hoping nobody would bring up.
Obama Ballot Petition Forgery Put His Name on Indiana's 2008 Primary
Pete Seat, former spokesman for President George W. Bush and the Indiana Republican Party, was on the CNN panel when the conversation turned to election fraud.
Former Obama strategist David Axelrod was in a mocking mood.
He'd been dismissing Republican concerns about election integrity the same way Democrats always do – rolling his eyes, citing Arizona's Cyber Ninjas, waving off the entire issue as a MAGA fever dream.
Seat cut him off.
"I'll give you an example of where it has been determinative," Seat said. "And that's in my home state of Indiana, Saint Joseph County."
"The gentleman you previously worked for – Barack Obama got on the ballot because Democrats in that county submitted fraudulent ballot petition signatures."
Axelrod's expression changed.
"People, including the Democrat county chair, went to jail over that," Seat continued. "Barack Obama should not have been on the primary ballot in the state of Indiana."
Adam Kinzinger, the disgraced former Illinois Republican turned CNN contributor, tried to run interference: "But that's not a voting issue."
Seat didn't blink.
"It is a voting issue because he was on the ballot and people could vote for him, and he shouldn't have been."
Axelrod, clearly caught flat-footed, could only manage one question: "How did that get determined?"
"It was finally exposed two years later," Seat said. "It went through the courts, and several people found themselves in jail. But that's the problem – it didn't happen before he was on the ballot. It took years after."
Democrat Election Fraud Convictions: Butch Morgan Went to Prison, the Media Said Nothing
This isn't a rumor.
In 2013, a South Bend jury convicted four Indiana Democrats on felony charges for forging signatures on the 2008 presidential primary petitions.
St. Joseph County Democratic Party Chairman Butch Morgan Jr. was found guilty of felony conspiracy to commit petition fraud and forgery. He was sentenced to a year in prison.
Board of Elections worker Dustin Blythe was convicted on felony forgery counts.
Two other election board officials – Pam Brunette and Beverly Shelton – pleaded guilty and received probation.
Morgan had ordered his people to copy names off old petitions – including, according to reports, the name of former Democratic Gov. Joe Kernan, who never signed a thing.
Indiana law required each presidential candidate to collect 500 valid signatures from registered voters in each congressional district to qualify for the ballot.
In St. Joseph County's 2nd Congressional District, Obama qualified with 534 signatures.
Strip out the forged names, and he doesn't make it.
The Heritage Foundation reviewed the trial record and reached an unambiguous conclusion: discovered in real time, the fraud would have knocked Obama off the Indiana primary ballot entirely, handing Hillary Clinton every Democrat delegate from the state.
The mainstream press buried it.
Schumer Promised Voter ID Support Then Led Every Democrat to Vote No on the SAVE America Act
Just days ago, the Senate had a chance to do something about exactly this kind of fraud.
Sen. Jon Husted of Ohio – the only Republican senator who previously served as a state Secretary of State – introduced a clean, narrow bill: show a valid photo ID to cast a federal ballot.
Driver's license, passport, military ID, state-issued photo card, tribal ID.
Chuck Schumer had told reporters in March: "Democrats support voter ID. In fact, we included it in our Freedom to Vote legislation several years ago."
The vote came at 4 a.m. and every single Senate Democrat voted no.
The bill failed 52-46, falling short of the 60 needed to advance.
Husted responded directly: "I've heard support for it from Senate Democrats and the American people. But when given the chance to make it the national standard, Senate Democrats representing nine states that already have some form of voter ID – and the rest of their caucus – voted against it."
Thirty-six states already require ID to vote. Gallup found 84 percent of Americans support the requirement. A separate Pew survey found 71 percent of Democrat voters do too.
The senators who represent them voted no anyway.
Democrats Blocked Election Fraud Reform at 4 A.M. and Caught a Flight Home
David Axelrod was Barack Obama's chief strategist – the architect of the campaign that put him in the White House.
Then he sat on a CNN panel and learned for the first time, apparently, that Democrats in his candidate's own party committed felonies to get Obama on the ballot in 2008.
Axelrod either forgot or pretended to forget.
Either way, every Senate Democrat voted to make sure the next version of that story stays just as hard to catch.
Democrats have been saying the same thing about election fraud for twenty years: it doesn't happen, it doesn't matter, anyone who raises it is a threat to democracy.
The four people convicted of felony forgery in South Bend disagree.
