Senate Democrats have spent two weeks filibustering a bill that simply asks voters to prove they are Americans.
Democrats have had two weeks to answer one question and they keep changing the subject.
Now border czar Tom Homan is daring them to explain it out loud.
Senate Democrats Filibuster Voter ID and Proof of Citizenship Bill
Appearing on The Charlie Kirk Show, Tom Homan cut straight to the point.
"Are illegal aliens voting? I mean, bottom line is, what are they afraid of? And they say illegal aliens don't vote. Well, look, part of DHS's job is secure elections – and if only U.S. citizens can vote, I don't see the issue, what they're concerned about," Homan said.
The question is not rhetorical. Senate Democrats have successfully blocked the SAVE America Act from reaching a final vote, using the 60-vote filibuster threshold to stall a bill that passed the House 218–213 in February.
Republicans hold 53 seats. The bill needs 60 to clear a filibuster. Not a single Democrat has crossed over.
Meanwhile, DHS – the agency responsible for securing the southern border, running deportation operations, and protecting federal elections – has been partially shut down for over a month as Democrats leverage the funding fight to extract concessions from the Trump administration.
Homan made the connection explicit. "Why is the Department of Homeland Security not funded? That's what they need to explain."
How Four Years of Open Borders Set Up the Election Integrity Fight
Homan did not let Democrats pretend this standoff appeared out of nowhere.
"They gotta remember, they baked this pie," he said. "Four years of open borders, four years of no immigration enforcement. We had historic illegal immigration on the southern border. They knew it, and the members of Congress stood silent. They're complicit."
Former Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas – the man Democrats refused to remove from office – spent years looking into cameras and telling Americans the border was secure. In March 2021, he repeated the claim across multiple broadcasts, including Good Morning America and Meet the Press.
The border was not secure. Millions of illegal aliens crossed. Democrats said nothing.
Now those same Democrats are blocking the bill that would require voters to prove they are American citizens.
Homan named the motive directly. "They sold this country out for future political power," he told Fox News' Laura Ingraham. "When Joe Biden opened the border up, he also overturned the Trump census rule."
Bodies counted in deep-blue cities translate directly into House seats, Electoral College votes, and political insulation – and Homan said Democrats knew exactly what they were doing.
"They're pissed off because we're ruining their long-term plans for power for decades to come."
This Is What Panic Looks Like
The SAVE America Act requires two things: proof of citizenship to register to vote, and a photo ID to cast a ballot.
That's it.
Thirty-six states already have some form of voter ID requirement on the books. Most developed democracies require government identification to vote. Lee went to the Senate floor and walked through accommodation after accommodation for voters who can't find their documents. Sworn affidavits, alternative verification, state-level discretion.
Schumer's caucus voted no anyway.
RINO Sen. John Cornyn of Texas, who spent years defending the filibuster, announced he now supports eliminating it to pass the SAVE America Act facing a tough primary. He noted the reason: in 2022, Chuck Schumer and 47 Senate Democrats tried to nuke the filibuster themselves to pass federal legislation that would have banned voter ID requirements outright.
They tried to eliminate voter ID. Now they are filibustering a bill to require it.
President Trump has demanded the bill reach his desk, calling it his number-one legislative priority and refusing to sign other legislation until it passes. "We cannot let the Democrats get away with NO VOTER I.D. any longer," Trump posted on Truth Social. "These are horrible, disingenuous CHEATERS."
Chuck Schumer has had two weeks on the Senate floor to explain why Americans should not have to prove they are Americans before they vote.
He has not explained it. He cannot explain it. Because the only honest answer exposes exactly what Homan said it does – a party that opened the border for four years, counted the bodies for House seats, and is now doing everything in its power to make sure those numbers hold.
