Ted Cruz Just Named the Most Powerful Democrat in America and It Isn’t Chuck Schumer

Chuck Schumer spent 40 years clawing his way to the top of the Democrat Party.

Now Ted Cruz says the man Schumer actually answers to has never held a Senate seat.

Cruz made the case Thursday in Washington – and the name he gave explains every vote Schumer has taken in 2026.

Cruz Says Zohran Mamdani and the DSA Now Control Every Senate Democrat

Ted Cruz delivered the assessment at a Club for Growth energy summit, and he didn't sugarcoat it.

"Schumer is truly terrified right now," Cruz said.

It's coming from the Left flank of his own party.

Cruz identified New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani – a self-proclaimed socialist and DSA member – as the single most powerful figure in the entire Democrat Party.

"I think Mamdani is the single most powerful Democrat in the country," Cruz said.

That's not a compliment.

Mamdani is 34 years old, born in Uganda, a card carrying member of the Democratic Socialists of America who took office as New York's mayor at the beginning of this year.

He ran on rent freezes, free bus rides, and universal childcare.

Now he runs the Democrat Party.

DSA Socialists Are Toppling Democrat Incumbents Across the Country

Cruz wasn't exaggerating.

DSA-backed Darializa Avila Chevalier defeated five-term incumbent Rep. Adriano Espaillat, the chair of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus, in New York's 13th District primary.

In Colorado, Melat Kiros knocked out 30-year incumbent Rep. Diana DeGette.

In Michigan, Donavan McKinney defeated incumbent Rep. Shri Thanedar.

Veteran Democrats are being wiped out by DSA socialists – and nobody in Democrat leadership has stopped a single one.

Cruz explained exactly why every Senate Democrat is now paralyzed: "It is not the case that every Senate Democrat is a Marxist or Islamist. What is the case is that every Senate Democrat is terrified of the Marxists and Islamists."

"That's where the energy is in their party, that's where the power is, that's where the money is; it's where the young people are."

Schumer Dodges as DSA Primary Wins Reshape the Democrat Party

Cruz didn't spare Schumer the embarrassment.

Cruz said Schumer "is known for a lot of things but acts of principle and courage are not among them."

The summit centered on permitting reform – an area where Republicans and some Democrats had found enough common ground to start serious conversations.

Cruz named what killed it: "They're in the middle of a revolution. Their problem is that they're very driven by their interest groups. They're captured by their activists."

Energy Secretary Chris Wright spelled out the damage.

Nuclear energy – the most reliable power source America has – is being strangled by red tape from the Nuclear Regulatory Commission.

Wright said the agency has presided over a near-total freeze on new reactor construction since its creation.

American energy independence is now being held hostage because Schumer won't cross a 34-year-old socialist.

Mamdani Controls Who Gets to Stay in Congress and Who Gets Wiped Out

The Democrat Party has already been captured, and its official leaders are too spineless to fight back.

Mamdani is the mayor of New York City – no Senate seat, no House seat, no committee chairmanship.

But when a five-term congressman – the chair of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus – gets erased from Congress because Mamdani backed his opponent, that's not influence.

That's control.

The Democrat primaries of 2026 are a roadmap of what happens when a party's leadership class surrenders to its radical base rather than confronting it.

Bernie Sanders took 30 years to pull the party this far Left.

Mamdani did it in eight months.

Every Democrat on the November ballot is running on what Mamdani will allow – not on what the candidate actually believes.

Cruz named what every Democrat in Washington already knows but won't admit: the most powerful Democrat in America isn't the Senate minority leader.

It's the socialist who has Schumer too scared to do his job.
