Every Senate Democrat has voted against photo ID four times while 83 percent of Americans support it.
Mark Warner showed up on ABC to make their case.
What the ABC host did next is something no Democrat expected from that network.
Mark Warner Claimed Virginia Requires Photo ID to Vote and Got Stopped Cold
Virginia Democrat Senator Mark Warner sat down with ABC's Jon Karl on This Week to argue against the SAVE America Act.
Karl had one question.
Eighty-three percent of Americans — including 71 percent of Democrats — support requiring photo ID to vote.
Should his party get behind that?
Warner didn't answer the question.
He pointed to Virginia.
"In Virginia, we have voter ID and photo ID," Warner said.
Karl stopped him before he finished the thought.
"That's actually not the case. I'm a Virginia voter."
Karl was right, Virginia doesn’t require photo ID.
A voter who shows up without identification can skip the ID entirely, sign a statement, and walk out with a counted ballot.
Warner has represented Virginia in the U.S. Senate since 2009.
Karl knows Virginia's election laws better than the senator does — because Karl votes there.

Warner chaired the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence from 2021 through 2025.
His job was understanding threats to American democracy — foreign interference, election vulnerabilities, compromised data.
Last Thursday, President Trump delivered a primetime address declassifying intelligence showing China acquired 220 million American voter files during the 2020 election cycle — names, addresses, phone numbers, party affiliations.
Warner went on television the next morning and called it "totally bogus."
The same senator who signed letters demanding intelligence briefings on foreign election threats cannot accurately describe whether his own constituents need ID to vote.
That is the man Democrats chose to be their public face on election integrity.
Democrats Have Blocked the SAVE America Act Every Time It Reached the Senate
The House has passed the SAVE America Act four times.
The bill requires documentary proof of citizenship to register for federal elections and photo ID at the ballot box.
Every single Senate Democrat has voted against it every time.
John Thune has brought it to the floor repeatedly.
Senate Democrats have filibustered it every time he has.
Even with 83 percent of the country behind it — including majorities of their own voters — not one Senate Democrat has broken ranks.
Trump addressed the nation Thursday night and named the obstruction directly.
"The only reason you wouldn't want to do it is because you want to cheat," he said.
Warner went on two separate shows trying to prove him wrong.
He told CBS's Margaret Brennan that Trump's speech was "a whole series of falsehoods,” and he falsely stated that Virginia already has the protections the SAVE America Act would create.
Neither claim survived contact with the facts.
The question Karl actually asked — should photo ID be a national standard — never got a straight answer.
Senate Democrats don't oppose the SAVE America Act because it's bad policy.
They oppose it because it works.
