James Talarico once stood in the Texas legislature and told them God is non-binary.
With a Senate seat on the line, he sat down with Fox News to walk all of it back.
Before he said a word on Fox News, the Texas legislature had already answered for him.
Five Years of Radical Votes Tell a Different Story
James Talarico sat down with Fox News national correspondent Brooke Taylor on The Story land said he had "missed the mark on some of my past statements."
That is a delicate way to describe five years of radical gender politics performed from the floor of the Texas legislature.
Asked directly whether he still believes there are six biological sexes – a claim he made in 2021 during a committee hearing on males competing in women's sports – Talarico folded.
"There are not six sexes," he said. "There are two."
He added that he "obviously didn't say it correctly" and pivoted immediately to diesel prices, groceries, and health care.
Talarico voted against Senate Bill 15 in 2021, the legislation that banned biological males from competing on women's sports teams. He did not quietly oppose it. He stood at the microphone and announced, "Some things are more important than perfectly fair competition in sports."
This performative nonsense turned him into a darling of the Left.
He also voted against Senate Bill 14 in 2023, which banned doctors from giving minors puberty blockers, cross-sex hormones, and sex-change procedures.
During that same 2023 debate, Talarico argued before the chamber that doctors had a "moral obligation" to treat children experiencing severe gender dysphoria.
Those were not even the worst of it.
On the Texas House floor in October 2021, Talarico declared that "God is non-binary." He called children with gender confusion "perfect, beautiful, and sacred." He posted the "God is non-binary" remark on X himself the following day – proud of it, broadcasting it, daring anyone to object.
The pattern is not complicated. He pushed this ideology for five years, voted for it every time it came to the floor, and celebrated it publicly afterward. Then he walked into a Fox News studio in September and claimed he missed the mark.
Texas girls forced to compete against biological males did not miss the mark. Neither did their parents.
His GOP opponent, Ken Paxton, labeled Talarico "Six Gender Jimmy" after winning the Republican nomination in May, built his entire campaign around it.
Abbott Drops the Hammer
Texas Governor Greg Abbott wasn’t moved by the Fox News interview.
Abbott responded with a post that Talarico will be watching in attack ads from now through Election Day on November 3.
"Jimmy Talarico 'missed the mark' with more than just his words, he missed the mark with his votes," Abbott wrote. "He was either lying about what he believed when he said there are six sexes, or he is lying about what he believes now. Six Gender Jimmy is not fit to represent Texas in the United States Senate."
That is the trap, and it has no exit.
Kamala Harris tried this same playbook in 2024 – walking back years of radical positions the moment she needed swing voters. Texas watched what happened in November.
There is a difference, though. Politicians walk back policy positions constantly.
Declaring God is non-binary and that there are six sexes is not a policy position. Those are convictions. Voters know when someone is lying about what they believe.
Talarico voted the ideology line every time – that is not a man who was misunderstood. His floor speeches were not nuanced. He went to the microphone and said the radical parts out loud.
The Fox News reversal was supposed to be a reset. Instead it handed Paxton a gift and gave Abbott the opening to define Talarico for undecided voters in Texas.
The timing made it worse. Trump's MAGA Inc. PAC dropped $10 million in Texas targeting Talarico's record. Elon Musk's America PAC added $2.6 million more. Talarico spent 45 minutes on Fox News explaining away the same votes already saturating Texas airwaves.
The Senate race has been tied for months. Talarico's path to victory runs through voters who were not watching a 2021 Texas legislative hearing – but they are watching the ads now.
Six Gender Jimmy walked into that Fox News studio calculating that a single interview could undo five years of floor speeches. What he walked out with was Greg Abbott on the record calling him a liar – and a voting history that proves Abbott right.
