Ted Cruz Warns of a Communist Takeover Inside the Democrat Party
The DSA has now won 35 primaries this cycle. A socialist sits in the New York City mayor's office. And the Democrat Party's Senate nominee in Michigan wants to abolish ICE, end aid to Israel, and has a documented history with CAIR that Cruz took straight to Hannity.
"I have never been more frightened for our nation than I am right now."
"We are seeing a communist takeover and an Islamist takeover of the Democratic Party," Cruz said, "and it is dangerous because if these zealots ever get in control, their objective is to permanently damage and destroy this country."
Cruz is done waiting for someone else to name it.
Abdul El-Sayed Wants to Abolish ICE and Cut Off Israel
The man at the center of Cruz's alarm is Abdul El-Sayed – Michigan's new Democrat Senate nominee whose record disqualifies him by any standard that existed in American politics before 2018.
El-Sayed wants to abolish ICE and replace the current healthcare system with a government-run program.
A DSA leader has identified him as a member. El-Sayed has spoken at DSA-organized events and campaigned alongside DSA candidates across the state.
He defended Sharia law while serving on the board of CAIR Michigan – an organization whose national leadership has faced federal scrutiny over ties to Hamas.
His campaign scrubbed social media posts in which he called border agents "white supremacists" and framed the post-9/11 counterterrorism effort as a campaign against Muslim Americans.
And Chuck Schumer's response to all of it?
"Look, we are a big tent party, and being a big tent party is a strength, not a weakness."
How DSA Won 35 Primaries and Took Over the 2026 Midterms
DSA-backed candidates have won 35 primary races this cycle across New York, Colorado, Michigan, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin.
Melat Kiros knocked off a 15-term incumbent in Denver. Socialist New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani – whom Cruz also named as an Islamist – deployed 50,000 volunteers to secure his primary win and immediately pointed that organization at the national party.
El-Sayed won Michigan's Senate nomination with backing from Bernie Sanders and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez.
The same movement sent AOC and Rashida Tlaib to Congress in 2018. It has more money, more candidates, and more wins now.
"The rest of the Democrats are terrified of these guys," Cruz said on Hannity, "because this is where the energy is, this is where the money is, this is where the young people are."
"We're not fighting over little stuff," Cruz continued. "We're fighting over whether the greatest nation in the history of the world survives or goes under."
The Green-Red Alliance Now on the Michigan Senate Ballot
Cruz named it on Hannity – and the record backs him up.
El-Sayed and Mamdani both won their primaries on platforms that include abolishing ICE, cutting off Israel, and defending Sharia law – and both did it with DSA ground operations behind them.
Cruz called it the "green-red convergence" – the fusion of far-left socialism with political Islam into a single electoral coalition.
That coalition is now on the ballot in Michigan in November, where El-Sayed faces Republican Mike Rogers.
It’s also on the ballot in House districts across the country.
Cruz's warning is not abstract. It is the 2026 midterm map.
Republicans who dismiss it as campaign rhetoric should read the primary results from Denver, where a first-time DSA candidate ended a congressman's 29-year career in June.
"That's a reason to show up for work every day," Cruz said, "strap on the armor, and go to battle."
