The Democrat Party is destroying itself from the inside.
Now one of their senators just handed them an ultimatum they have no idea how to answer.
And what John Fetterman told them he would do if they cross it is keeping one Democrat senator up at night.
Fetterman Threatens to Leave the Democrat Party Over Israel
Senator John Fetterman revealed what his red line with the Democrat Party is and it’s making his colleagues nervous.
"If they put that in our platform – no aid for Israel – and officially become the anti-Israel party, then yeah, that's a red line for me," Fetterman told NBC News last week.
He named the condition, drew the line, and dared his own party to answer it.
One Democrat senator, speaking anonymously, told NOTUS about the prospect of Fetterman leaving the party: "I am concerned."
That's not how Democrats in good standing talk.
Fetterman has been watching his party's primary voters hand wins to candidates he calls "intensely anti-Israel" – not just pro-Hamas, he says, but explicitly hostile to Israel's right to exist.
House Minority Whip Katherine Clark broke with Democrat leadership to back legislation cutting off all U.S. defensive aid to Israel. The base is moving, and Fetterman sees exactly where it's going.
His approval among Pennsylvania Democrats has collapsed to 19%. Republicans approve of him at 77%. A Quinnipiac poll released last week found 52% of Pennsylvania voters want Fetterman to leave the party.
That's the state of the Democrat Party in 2026.
Fetterman and McCormick Launch Bipartisan Fundraising Committee Common Ground PA
Fetterman didn't stop at the ultimatum.
He and Republican Sen. Dave McCormick filed paperwork with the Federal Election Commission earlier this month creating a joint fundraising committee called Common Ground PA – something Pennsylvania GOP consultant Christopher Nicholas said he had never witnessed between senators from opposing parties in state politics.
Joint fundraising committees allow two candidates to pool donor money and split contributions. What makes this one different is that the two men raising money together belong to different parties.
Sen. Chris Van Hollen, who chaired the House Democrat campaign committee for years, told NOTUS: "I've never seen it before. Yes, I'm struck by it."
Rep. Chris Deluzio, a left-wing Pennsylvania congressman eyeing a 2028 challenge to Fetterman, called the move "crazy stuff."
"We have battleground races in Pennsylvania that we are trying to flip, and now we've got John Fetterman helping the Republicans raise money to beat Democrats," Deluzio said.
Fetterman fired back by noting that Deluzio's own PAC had cut a $500 check to a former Maine Senate candidate Graham Platner who later faced a sexual assault allegation. He had no interest in the lecture.
The two senators appeared together to promote Trump Accounts – the federally backed savings program created under President Trump's One Big Beautiful Bill Act. They teamed up again to keep Pennsylvania represented at the Great American State Fair after Democrat Gov. Josh Shapiro couldn't find a Pennsylvania business to sponsor the state's booth.
These are not the actions of a man who sees himself as part of the Democrat team.
Fetterman Party Switch Could Flip Senate Majority
Democrats have been here before, and it did not go well.
Kyrsten Sinema spent years bucking the left wing of her party before formally leaving it in December 2022.
Joe Manchin spent years as the most conservative Democrat in the Senate, held up the entire Biden legislative agenda, then registered as an independent in May 2024 before retiring.
Both of them insisted they weren't going anywhere – right up until they were gone.
Fetterman's former chief of staff Adam Jentleson told NOTUS he believes Fetterman might leave the party to "stay relevant," particularly if Democrats win a Senate majority by a single seat in the midterms.
"I think, if he is the majority-maker, he will flip, because it would give him a massive amount of attention," Jentleson said.
The man who said that used to run his office.
Pennsylvania Republicans, Trump, and Sen. Steve Daines – the former head of the Senate Republican campaign arm – have all signaled Fetterman would be welcomed in the GOP conference. Trump asked Sean Hannity to personally urge Fetterman to make the switch, with the president's support as the offer.
John Fetterman leaving the party would make Democrats uphill climb to regain the Senate majority this fall much harder.
