Bill Maher has hosted one of HBO's longest-running political shows for over twenty years and has voted Democrat every single time.
Friday night he sat down with Vice President JD Vance on Real Time and said something nobody on the Left saw coming.
What Maher told Vance about 2028 is the last thing Democrats wanted to hear this week.
Bill Maher Admits His 2028 Vote Is in Play on Real Time
Vice President JD Vance appeared on Real Time with Bill Maher Friday night – and Maher, a longtime skeptic of the Democrat Party's rising socialist wing, said something stunning.
The comedian said his vote was in play for 2028.
"Like, if this is where the Democratic Party is going, where this Democratic Socialist, this obsession with Israel, with the Jew hating, with they don't believe in capitalism, no prisons," Maher said to Vance. "If this is where they're going, my vote is in play."
A man who has voted Democrat his entire adult life just told the Republican Vice President his vote is available.
And this week, the socialist wing gave him every reason to follow through.
Zohran Mamdani Sweeps New York Democrat Primary with Socialist Slate
Three days before Maher made that admission, New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani – a self-described socialist – ran the table in Democrat House primaries.
His three endorsed candidates swept the field.
Brad Lander defeated two-term incumbent Dan Goldman in NY-10.
Darializa Avila Chevalier knocked out five-term incumbent Adriano Espaillat in NY-13.
Claire Valdez, a member of the Democratic Socialists of America, won the open seat in NY-7.
That's not a trend – that's a hostile takeover.
The Democratic Socialists of America didn't hide what they were celebrating.
"These victories prove that democratic socialists are building a winning coalition," NYC-DSA co-chair Grace Mausser said after the results came in.
Their platform: abolish ICE, end capitalism, government run healthcare, and opposition to Israel – exactly what Maher described as his breaking point.
Thirteen Democrat House Members Reject Socialist Takeover of Their Party
Thirteen Democrat House members rushed to sign something called the "Promise to America" pledge this week – explicitly declaring "We are capitalist, not socialist" and calling for secure borders and fiscal responsibility.
The fact that elected Democrats feel the need to clarify they don't want to abolish capitalism tells you everything about who's winning their internal civil war.
They're losing.
Hakeem Jeffries stood at the podium after the New York results and tried to spin a socialist earthquake as party unity.
At Valdez's victory party in Brooklyn, the crowd booed when Jeffries appeared on screen and broke into a chant – "You're next" – aimed squarely at the House Minority Leader.
The socialist base isn't hiding its ambitions.
JD Vance Walks Into Bill Maher's Liberal Audience and Holds His Ground
Vance showed up.
He walked into a hostile room – HBO, Maher's turf, a Friday night liberal audience – and held his ground.
When Maher pressed him on 2020, Vance didn't flinch.
He made the case that Big Tech had its thumb on the scale – suppressing negative coverage of the left and amplifying negative coverage of the right – and that a distorted information environment is itself a form of election interference.
Maher didn't have an answer for that.
The Democrat Party is busy handing out congressional seats to socialists who want to abolish ICE and end capitalism.
Vance is busy showing up on their turf and making their own voters question the team they're on.
He walked in and gave Maher's audience something to think about.
Why the Democrat Socialist Surge Is JD Vance's 2028 Gift
Socialism is sweeping through the Democrat Party and even its elected officials are getting nervous about the direction things are going.
Bill Maher – who has spent years treating Republicans as the enemy – went on television and said his 2028 vote is available.
Republicans don't need to persuade Maher's voters.
They need to not scare them away.
The socialist wave is making the argument for Republicans and nobody on that side seems to notice.
Vance's book tour has taken him into rooms that hate him – and he keeps winning them over anyway.
He just needs to let the other side keep electing radical socialists.
