Comedian Drew Carey has had a successful career on TV for decades.

But he’s dealt with his share of hardships over the years.

And The Price is Right host Drew Carey broke his silence about this terrible tragedy in his life.

Drew Carey talks about the murder of his fiancé

Comedian Drew Carey rose to fame starring on the ABC sitcom The Drew Carey Show, which ran for nine seasons.

Carey was beloved for playing an everyman character in his hometown of Cleveland, Ohio.

Three years after The Drew Carey Show went off the air he was asked to fill the massive shoes left behind by Bob Barker after he retired as the host of the longtime game show The Price is Right

Carey took over as the host of The Price is Right in 2007 where he successfully navigated the transition from legendary Barker.

His life was turned upside down in 2020 when his former fiancé Amie Harwick was murdered.

Carey told US Weekly that her death changed his view of life.

“I think about her every day. It’s such a loss,” Carey said. “Her death still affects me and my ideas about relationships and intimacy.”

She reached out to him the day before she was murdered.

“It was all damaged by first our breakup, and then, the day before she died, when she texted me,” Carey recalled. “It had been a really bad breakup for both of us, but a necessary one. I couldn’t think about her or see a picture of her. I didn’t want to be reminded.”

Carey was surprised at the text message that Harwick had sent him.

“She said, ‘Hey, it’s Amie. I’ve been thinking a lot about forgiveness. I would love to get together with you and talk about some things.’ I texted her that I loved her and that I’d see her the next week. I heard from one of her friends that she shed tears about my saying that I loved her still, which I did. I loved her madly even though we were broken up,” Carey said.

He never heard from her again after that.

“The next day she was murdered, and we never got a chance to get together,”

Carey admitted that her death still affects him when it comes to dating.

“It destroyed me for a while. I still don’t date. I have women I go out with and spend time with, but it’s all platonic,” Carey stated. “I don’t care about anything else. Amie’s death really affected everything.”

Harwick was murdered on February 15, 2020, when she was thrown off of the third-story balcony of her Hollywood Hills apartment.

Gareth Pursehouse, her ex-boyfriend, was arrested and convicted of her murder in March 2023.

Carey was able to find some peace after his conviction.

“I can barely remember the guy’s name — that’s how much I’ve put him out of my life — but ever since the final sentencing, it feels like we’ve all let out a breath and are able to finally move on,” Carey said. “The whole process is over now, and there’s nothing else to be done and nothing else to worry about. […]  Speaking just for myself, it’s been quite a load off.”
