Karine Jean-Pierre was the worst White House Press Secretary in history.
She ended her career with a jaw-dropping stunt.
And Karine Jean-Pierre had one final humiliation that left Democrats shaking their heads.
Karine Jean-Pierre has a farewell party while ignoring Middle East hostage exchange
Former White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre wanted to make her final press briefing all about her.
She left journalists and Biden White House staffers in a state of disgust when she turned the briefing into a goodbye event while major news was breaking.
Israel agreed to a tentative ceasefire with Hamas in exchange for releasing hostages the terrorist group held including some Americans.
That would have been the top story for the press but Jean-Pierre refused to allow former White House National Security Communications Advisor John Kirby to speak during her final press briefing.
She said she didn’t have any new information on the breakthrough deal.
Former Biden National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan asked that Kirby be allowed to speak to the press about the deal.
Jean-Pierre reportedly refused to allow Kirby to speak because she wanted to use her final press briefing as a “goodbye party,” according to the New York Post.
She put major news on hold to make it all about her.
Karine Jean-Pierre gives herself a final pat on the back
“She basically said it was her goodbye party,” a source told the Post. “She kinda marketed it as a celebration of her and her tenure and unfortunately that took precedence over huge breaking news — and we haven’t had this kind of news in this administration for a long time.”
Jean-Pierre ducked any details about the hostage release that included the eventual release of three American citizens held by Hamas.
Former Biden White House Secretary Jen Psaki was at the briefing, which quickly became all about Jean-Pierre’s stint in the role.
Reporters noticed there were bottles of expensive champagne on Jean-Pierre’s desk after the briefing.
“I thought at the last minute she would just break and say, ‘OK, fine, [Kirby] can just come at the top and he can leave, and then I can wax poetic about my time here, and then I don’t really even have to answer any questions and be grilled on anything,’” a source told the Post.
Jean-Pierre had a rivalry with Kirby who handled national security questions because she thought he was stepping on her toes.
Kirby had been open about his ambition to become Press Secretary at some point.
“She looks silly, and God help her in whatever she does next, but in this personal battle that she’s had with [former White House communications chief] Anita [Dunn] and Kirby for the entirety of her time in the press briefing room, I know that she considers it a win,” the source explained.
Dunn tried to push Jean-Pierre out as Press Secretary thinking she would be a liability to Biden’s re-election campaign.
“Not allowing actual news to be delivered from the podium on such an important day for the president and the world for your own ego is disgraceful,” a Biden aide said about Jean-Pierre’s final press briefing. “I am not sure there is someone that did more damage to the president’s reputation than her — it is really sad.”
Karine Jean-Pierre cemented her status as the worst Press Secretary with her embarrassing finale.
