Biden scrambles to keep gas prices in check
The skyrocketing cost of living the Biden Presidency has forced on working-class Americans has become an outright crisis of epic proportions.
And it’s threatening to sink President Joe Biden’s re-election campaign.
Gas prices hit record highs under Biden during the summer of 2022 after he declared war on American energy production in the name of Democrats’ environmental extremist agenda.
He began tapping America’s Strategic Petroleum Reserve (SPR) – which is meant to only be used in the event of a major national emergency – to bring down prices and help Democrats’ cause in the 2022 Midterm elections.
Now that it’s once again an election year, Biden is trying to lower gas prices again with summer driving season underway.
The Biden regime is preparing to release more oil from the SPR, and they’re not even hiding the fact that they’re only tapping the SPR to help Democrats in November.
Special Presidential Coordinator for Global Infrastructure and Energy Security Amos Hochstein told the Financial Times that gas prices are “still too high,” and wants the Biden regime to “cut them down a little bit further.”
“We will do everything we can to make sure that the market is supplied well enough to ensure as low [a] price as possible for American consumers,” Hochstein said. “I think that we have enough in the SPR if it’s necessary.”
The SPR is at its lowest level in 40 years after the Biden regime sold off nearly half of the emergency stockpile to try to avert disaster for Democrats in 2022.
Biden has taken more from the SPR than any President in American history.
A record 180 million barrels from the SPR were sold off in 2022 ahead of an expected tough election for Biden’s party.
Biden officials said they would begin refilling it, but those plans have been placed on the back burner.
This is the latest sign the White House is worried that high gas prices this summer will be a political liability for them come November.
Oil reserve was tapped for Memorial Day weekend
The Biden Energy Department announced on May 21, ahead of Memorial Day weekend, it was releasing one million barrels of gasoline from the Northeast Gasoline Supply Reserve – part of the SPR.
Biden Energy Secretary Jennifer Granholm admitted that it was about bringing prices down for summer.
“The Biden-Harris Administration is laser-focused on lowering prices at the pump for American families, especially as drivers hit the road for summer driving season,” Granholm said. “By strategically releasing this reserve in between Memorial Day and July 4, we are ensuring sufficient supply flows to the tristate and Northeast at a time hardworking Americans need it the most.”
Lowering prices at the pump never includes unleashing American energy for the Biden regime.
Sky-high gas prices are a highly visible public reminder of the surging cost of living under the Democrat President.
Tapping more oil from the SPR is a sign the Biden regime is worried that they can’t take the political hit with Biden’s re-election campaign hanging by a thread.
The White House is pulling out all the stops in an election year to save Joe Biden and his fellow Democrats.
