Whenever a new President takes office, some people will be happy with their cabinet choices while others won’t.

Most often it’s the President’s supporters who are happy and his opponents who are not.

But Donald Trump threw his supporters an infuriating curveball with this potentially Presidency-destroying nomination.

Conservatives fume over Trump’s Labor Secretary choice

Unions have long had a stranglehold on this country, including on businesses, government, and, most notably, politicians.

Now, many conservatives have expressed their concern and outrage over President-elect Donald Trump’s choice for Labor Secretary.

Rep. Lori Chavez-DeRemer (RINO-OR) has been selected to lead the Department of Labor under the incoming Trump administration, even though she lost her re-election bid earlier this month after pushing an anti-working class agenda that contradicts the America First agenda.

Chavez-DeRemer is a proponent of the PRO Act, a policy that President Joe Biden has been attempting to push through for years now.

The policy would bolster unions and give them more access at the federal level.

It would also destroy the livelihoods of countless contractors, freelancers, and gig workers due to a proposed change to the independent worker clause.

Thus far, the PRO Act has been unable to make it through the U.S. Senate as pro-working class conservatives have overwhelmingly opposed it.

However, Teamster President Sean O’Brien and Trump are strange bedfellows, and O’Brien publicly thanked him for nominating Chavez-DeRemer.

His post on X reads in part, “You put words into action. Now let’s grow wages and improve working conditions nationwide. Congratulations to @LChavezDeRemer on your nomination!”

Meanwhile, many conservatives are expressing their concern and disdain over the nomination.

The New York Post published an article with the headline, “Trump’s labor pick is ‘toxic,’ anti-conservative RINO who is too close to unions, critics allege: ‘Not serious.’”

Americans for Tax Reform founder Grover Norquist has also been vocally opposed to the pick, saying that it was an “outrage.”

Even The Wall Street Journal opposed Trump’s choice, and published an editorial titled: “Trump’s Labor Choice: Unions Over Workers.”

The editorial states, “Republicans can work with unions to improve workforce training and increase alternative education pathways like apprenticeships. But putting Ms. Chavez-DeRemer in charge of Labor will make labor bosses, not workers, more powerful again.”

Trump gets even more backlash from conservatives

Aside from several major publications writing about the Labor Secretary pick, some well-known conservatives also joined the fray.

Pro-Trump conservatives like Fox News’ Katie Pavlich wrote on X, “Republican Senators should vote this nomination down. A co-sponsor of the Pro-Act as Labor Secretary? Absolutely not.”

Erick Erickson, a conservative radio host, made what Chavez-DeRemer stands for crystal clear for his followers when he wrote, “Trump’s Labor Secretary pick joined the Dems to sponsor: (1) Amnesty for illegal aliens (2) Forced unionization of private sector employees (3) opposition to school choice (4) expanded unionization of government employees.”

Meanwhile, delusional left-wing radicals praised the nomination, including The Young Turks’ host Cenk Uygur.

He posted, “This is a genius move. She’s the most pro-labor Secretary we could have asked for. @TeamsterSOB delivers on his strategy to court the populist right. @realDonaldTrump steals the Democrats thunder by being pro-labor. And corporate CEOs are howling in anger. Everyone is a winner.”

However, if you talk to any freelancer, contractor, gig worker, or small business owner, it’s highly unlikely that they think this was a “genius move.”

And if she is confirmed, none of those people will come out of this a “winner.”
