Democrats were caught red-handed using the Bloody Sunday Anniversary to destroy states’ rights

Three Key Takeaways:

  • Democrats exploited the 60th anniversary of Bloody Sunday in Selma to push for more federal control over state elections, with Rep. Terri Sewell introducing legislation that would require states to seek approval from the Justice Department for election changes.
  • The Left’s use of civil rights history to justify federal overreach contradicts the Founding Fathers’ vision of states’ rights, as they push for continued federal micromanagement despite the Supreme Court’s rulings.
  • The Democrat Party’s actions are seen as a power grab, aiming to maintain control through federal agencies while undermining state sovereignty and the people’s ability to govern themselves.

The sacred ground of Selma, Alabama became a political battleground Sunday – and not by accident.

As folks gathered to commemorate the 60th anniversary of Bloody Sunday, Democrat Party leaders couldn’t resist exploiting what should have been a solemn occasion.

And Democrats were caught red-handed using the Bloody Sunday Anniversary to destroy states’ rights.

You’d think they’d show more respect for history. But no – there was House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries, standing at Selma’s historic Tabernacle Baptist Church, warning of “trouble all around.”

We’ve heard this tune before . . .  it’s the same old Democrat playbook of manufacturing crisis to justify Washington, D.C.’s overreach.

Look, nobody’s denying the gravity of what happened in Selma six decades ago. Charles Mauldin – who was there that terrible day as a 17-year-old marcher – painted a vivid picture for reporters at the anniversary.

“They began to beat men, women and children, and tear gas men, women and children, and cattle prod men, women and children viciously,” he recalled, his voice still carrying the weight of that moment.

But here’s what the mainstream media won’t tell you: America addressed those historical wrongs through equal protection under the law – not permanent federal control.

The Supreme Court recognized this fundamental truth when they struck down outdated sections of the Voting Rights Act that gave Washington, D.C. bureaucrats veto power over state election laws.

Yet Representative Terri Sewell (D-AL) seems determined to drag us backwards.

She’s pushing legislation that would force states to beg permission from the Justice Department before making even minor changes to their election procedures. Talk about government overreach!

Perhaps most telling was Dr. Verdell Lett Dawson’s commentary at the event. This Selma resident actually suggested that federal agencies are “the only way” to achieve equality.

Really? Because last time we checked, our Founding Fathers had some pretty clear ideas about states’ rights – and federal micromanagement wasn’t part of the plan.

The Democrat Party’s strategy couldn’t be more transparent.

They’re weaponizing civil rights history to maintain their grip on power through bloated federal agencies. While they preach about diversity, equity, and inclusion, their real goal is stopping President Trump from dismantling their administrative state.

Let’s be crystal clear about something: America doesn’t need Washington, D.C. telling states how to run their elections.

We need to restore power where it belongs – with the people and their state governments.

The Left can dress up their power grab in whatever noble-sounding language they want.

But patriots across this great nation aren’t fooled. We see exactly what they’re doing, and we won’t stand for it.
