Some companies banked almost everything on the premise that electric vehicles would be the wave of the future.

But somehow most Americans still don’t drive an electric vehicle.

And now Democrats are going bananas over the haymaker this major corporation just threw at their environmental extremist agenda.

Hertz to offload its EV fleet

In November, Hertz announced plans to offload 30,000 of its electric vehicles (EVs) by the end of 2024.

Many of those EVs are heading for sale to consumers at massive discounts.

The rapid depreciation of EVs, coupled with low demand, has forced Hertz’s hand to cull its fleet and sell the cars for a great deal.

According to a report from the website Carscoops, some Reddit users have shared screenshots of emails they’ve allegedly received from Hertz offering extremely low prices on the vehicles.

Several 2023 Tesla Model 3s have also been posted on the Hertz car sales website showing the EVs with under 60,000 miles going for less than $24,000 apiece.

Initially, Hertz planned to transition a large portion of its gas-powered fleet over to electric vehicles.

However, those EVs have proven to be extremely costly to maintain and their value has depreciated quickly.

Hertz CEO Stephen Scherr stepped down from the company in March after leading the charge to push the company toward using EVs.

A spokesperson for Hertz said the car sales are simply part of its greater business strategy.

Hertz rotates its rental fleet regularly to ensure that the cars it rents to consumers are “fresh and modern” and that they are in line with customer preferences, according to the spokesperson.

“Our commitment to a modern, diverse fleet means we offer well-maintained vehicles nationwide at competitive prices, typically below Kelley Blue Book value. From luxury models and SUVs to sedans and EVs, we’ve got options at great prices. And if you’re renting a vehicle that will soon join our sales inventory, we often let you know,” the company rep said.

They noted that every vehicle Hertz sells undergoes a stringent 115-point inspection and comes with a 12-month, 12,000-mile limited powertrain warranty.

EV prices from Hertz are a steal

The Reddit user who posted screenshots of the email from Hertz says when they rented a Tesla Model 3, it had less than 30,000 miles on it.

They believe having the chance to purchase a similar one for less than $18K is a great deal.

At the time of publishing, Hertz had three 2022 Tesla Model 3s available for sale on its website, and each was being offered for less than $20,000.

However, each of those Teslas had over 130,000 miles on them.

Another Reddit user claimed they recently rented a Polestar (a Swedish-made EV brand) from Hertz and were later sent a similar email with an offer to buy one for $28,500.

Many Polestar 2s are currently for sale on the Auto Trader website for less than $25,000, and the bulk of them have less than 20,000 miles.

Meanwhile, a used 2023 Chevrolet Bolt EV is listed for sale on Hertz’s website for just $11,985.
