Democrats have declared war on Elon Musk.
But that won’t turn out like they planned.
And CNN told Democrats to throw in the towel in this fight with Elon Musk.
Democrats go to war against Elon Musk over foreign aid
President Donald Trump issued an executive order on his first day in office to evaluate all spending on foreign aid.
Tesla CEO Elon Musk and his team at the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) exposed wasteful spending and corruption at the United States Agency for International Development (USAID).
USAID was spending taxpayer money on transgender comic books in South America, funneling money to the Taliban, and wasting millions of dollars on subscriptions to the left-wing media outlet Politico.
Trump and Musk temporarily shut down USAID and moved control of the agency to Secretary of State Marco Rubio.
Democrats had been searching for a messaging strategy since the start of the Trump administration.
They banded together to attack Musk for getting the spigot of money turned off at USAID.
Representative Ilhan Omar (D-MN) claimed that stopping USAID spending was not only illegal but it could also get Americans killed.
“So we might actually see somebody get killed. An American who works for the American government might be harmed in some of those countries that they’re operating in,” Omar ranted on MSNBC.
Democrats were determined to die on the hill defending USAID.
CNN warns Democrats they’re picking the wrong fight
CNN political analyst Mark Preston warned Democrats that fighting with the Trump administration had become a political “loser” for them.
“I think they are looking at it as a huge success because no one’s been able to stop them,” Preston said. “And in fact, in Washington, they’re telling Democrats to let USAID go, just let it go because it’s a loser and it’s a loser in the sense that you can go through and pick out any program in USAID, and you can make a case about why the United States shouldn’t be using its tax dollars to spend overseas.”
Rubio defended the decision to shutter USAID by noting the agency’s spending had gotten completely out of alignment with the country’s foreign policy goals.
CNN News Central co-host Kate Bolduan noted that the agency’s being favored by the American intelligence community made it popular with Washington, D.C. insiders.
“However, you can still go through and find out something about condoms or about abortions or about something that is going to upset some people,” Preston replied. “But what is amazing, though, Kate, is that if they’re able to do it with USAID, are they going to be able to do it with every bit of government? And honestly, I don’t know who can stop them at this point.”
Foreign aid is the least popular thing the federal government spends money on according to polling.
But Democrats are falling all over themselves to defend wasteful and corrupt spending by USAID.
They’ve put themselves in the position of arguing in favor of one of the Swampiest programs in Washington, D.C.
