The Smithsonian Museum has stood for 180 years as America's monument to its own greatness.
The far-left took it over and started spending taxpayer dollars to rewrite everything inside it.
And a Texas congressman made the museum's director answer for what they've been teaching American children.
The Smithsonian Exhibit That Called Mickey Mouse Racist
The Smithsonian Institution pulls more than $1 billion in federal funding every year across its 21 museums.
On July 4, the White House dropped a 162-page report accusing the National Museum of American History of being captured by "a radical, activist ideology that is fundamentally opposed to telling the noble, honest story of the great country we know and love."
That report followed Trump's March 2025 executive order directing the removal of far-left ideology from every federally funded institution.
Congress wanted answers.
The House Oversight Subcommittee convened under the title "Rewriting American History: Examining the Smithsonian's Efforts to Reshape the Past."
Museum director Anthea Hartig opened with prepared remarks insisting the institution operates with "accuracy, independence, and nonpartisanship."
Rep. Brandon Gill (R-Texas) listened.
Then he asked about Mickey Mouse.
Gill confronted Hartig over a museum exhibit describing the beloved American icon as representing "vestiges of longstanding traditions of blackface minstrelsy."
"Is Mickey Mouse racist?" he asked directly.
"Mickey Mouse is not racist," Hartig said.
Then Gill asked why her museum said otherwise.
She had no answer.
The Taxpayer-Funded Policy That Calls Politeness White Supremacy
Gill wasn't finished.
"Is it important to be polite?" he asked.
"Yes, sir," Hartig said.
"That's also interesting," Gill replied, "because the same MASS Action Toolkit that your organization has been promoting references politeness as a defining characteristic of white supremacy culture."
He paused.
"Ma'am, are you a white supremacist?"
"Hmm, no, sir," Hartig answered.
"Can you help me square why your organization says that being polite is part of being a white supremacist?" Gill pressed.
"I'm not exactly familiar with that passage of the MASS Action Toolkit," Hartig said.
"I can show you the passage," Gill told her. "I just read you the passage from it."
The MASS Action Toolkit – Museum As Site for Social Action – is a 2017 activist framework the Smithsonian promoted under Hartig's leadership.
It explicitly labels objectivity "a characteristic of a white supremacy culture" and ties basic politeness to the same framework.
Gill had one more trap to set.
He asked Hartig whether objectivity is a goal of history.
"We strive to be objective and nonpartisan," she said.
"Doesn't that concern you?" Gill fired back. "Because your own organization's material lists objectivity as a core and defining aspect of white supremacy culture."
Hartig claimed the toolkit "is not our toolkit."
"It is your toolkit," Gill told her. "You've been promoting it for quite some time."
She conceded: the museum used it as a reference "probably in 2019, 2020" – on her watch.
House Oversight Committee records confirm that exchange verbatim.
After the hearing, Gill said the conclusion was unavoidable: "According to her own materials, she is promoting a white supremacist culture."
The exchange went viral within hours.
Donald Trump Jr. called it worth watching and said Gill "absolutely wrecks this woke leftist lunatic."
What Else Anthea Hartig Could Not Explain to Congress
Rep. Tim Burchett pressed Hartig over what he described as a "crotch harness" display inside the museum – with a parental advisory warning attached.
Hartig confirmed the warning exists and told Congress children must be accompanied by adults to see it.
When Gill turned to the museum gift shop selling "Latina Power" merchandise, Hartig claimed the director of the institution had no control over what her own museum sells.
This is the woman running one of America's most visited public institutions on over a billion dollars in federal money every year.
Hartig sat in front of Congress frozen at key moments – reaching for a notepad, feigning ignorance of documents her institution promoted, and admitting she was "unfamiliar" with materials used under her own leadership.
Conservatives have spent years watching their tax money flow into institutions that teach their grandchildren to be ashamed of America.
She just proved every one of them right.
Brandon Gill made sure they heard every word of it from her own mouth.
