Barack Obama called Trump's White House renovations a Cheesecake Factory insult while stumping for Democrats in Ohio.
Then Fox Business reporters spotted Scott Bessent walking out of an actual Cheesecake Factory.
What Bessent said next made Obama's entire attack collapse on itself.
Scott Bessent Was Leaving the Cheesecake Factory When Fox Business Found Him
Barack Obama had spent the weekend in Ohio and Michigan running the same lame attack line at every stop: Trump's White House renovations look like what happens when "Saddam Hussein opened a Cheesecake Factory."
He loved it enough to repeat it twice.
Fox Business caught Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent right outside the Cheesecake Factory, fresh off the French dip cheeseburger.
Bessent was asked about Obama’s comments. .
"Two things," Bessent told Fox Business. "First, this is the man who built the museum that looks like Darth Vader's tomb. I had a great meal, always have a great meal. I would tell the Martha's Vineyard set to give it a try."

Obama – the man with the private chef and the mansion on Martha's Vineyard – spent Saturday mocking a restaurant that everyday Americans eat at every week, and Bessent made sure everyone knew whose building actually deserved the ridicule.
And he did it while still digesting his cheeseburger.
Obama Presidential Center Hit $1 Billion and He Is Out Here Giving Building Advice
Obama spent the weekend picking a fight on aesthetics with a man whose buildings actually open on time.
The Obama Presidential Center in Chicago is the most expensive presidential center in American history – original estimate $300 million, final bill nearly $1 billion, triple the projection, years behind schedule, and trailing contractor disputes and neighborhood protests the whole way.
Trump called it a disaster while the project was still under construction, saying it was years behind schedule and thousands of percent over budget.
Trump, meanwhile, has been overseeing White House restorations with – in his words – "the finest artisans in the world."
Obama's track record on construction is a Reflecting Pool repair that never stopped leaking and a billion-dollar presidential monument that needed three times its original budget to open years late.
Obama makes a mess, runs up the bill, and someone else cleans it up – the Iran deal, the border, the White House he left behind. Now he is on the campaign trail lecturing Trump about buildings.
What Trump Found in the White House After Obama Left
Trump addressed the complaint directly.
"He doesn't notice dirt and filth that hadn't been cleaned, where the walls hadn't been cleaned for years," Trump said about what he found when he moved in. "He doesn't see broken ornaments on a building."
Obama moved into the White House and never noticed the state of the place. Trump moved in, noticed, and fixed it.
After a decade of attacking Trump, the best the Democrat Party can field in October 2026 is Barack Obama doing restaurant comedy while working Americans eat there – no economic argument, no border answer, no foreign policy message worth saying out loud.
Obama Mocking Cheesecake Factory Shows Why Democrats Keep Losing Working-Class Voters
Obama's Cheesecake Factory line was supposed to hit Trump on style.
Instead it hit Democrats on class.
Cheesecake Factory is where families go for birthdays, where people take their parents on anniversaries, where your kid orders pasta and feels like the night is a big deal.
Obama made that the punchline – and Bessent had already answered it with a cheeseburger in his stomach.
Democrats have spent a decade asking why working-class voters left them, and Obama just answered the question.
When your best surrogate hits the trail to mock the restaurant where families celebrate ordinary milestones, you have already lost the argument before the votes are counted.
Bessent walked out of the Cheesecake Factory and let Obama explain himself to the country – a man so removed from normal American life that mocking a chain restaurant passes for campaign strategy in an election year.
The French dip cheeseburger, by the way, was excellent.
