Obama Presidential Center Workers Just Revolted Against Him and the Reason Is Humiliating

Barack Obama spent decades telling workers to organize and demand better.

Now workers at his $900 million presidential center just organized against him in the most humiliating way imaginable.

And they did it using his own words.

Obama Foundation Preached Unions for 30 Years While Cutting Worker Benefits in Chicago

A union organizing letter went out to staff at the Obama Presidential Center – just four months after the center's June opening.

The letter listed raises halted, promotions frozen, healthcare costs going up, and paid time off slashed – all of it producing a "high turnover rate" so severe that experienced employees are already walking out the door.

The center took nearly a decade to build and opened in June to considerable fanfare.

Already, it can't hold onto its staff.

At least 68 of the 250-person staff have already signed the union organizing letter and are actively recruiting the rest.

The workers cited "vague responses" from administrators every time they tried to raise concerns.

Employee Luke Gilday said his team had no seat at the table when decisions affecting their lives were being made – and framed the organizing drive as living out Obama's own legacy: "one of hope," he said, "one of fairness, and one of transparency."

So they organized – and when they sat down to write the letter, they pulled out a quote Obama made in 2016.

"If I were looking for a good job that lets me build some security for my family, I'd join a union," they cited him saying. "If I saw a problem in my workplace, I'd organize my coworkers to do something about it."

Obama's own employees used those words against his foundation.

The Obama Foundation responded with a statement saying they are "deeply committed to the fundamental right of workers to organize."

That's not a response. That's a white flag.

Obama Presidential Center Revenue Collapsed While Unpaid Contractors Fight for Millions

The Obama Foundation's revenue dropped 25% last year – from $210 million in 2024 down to $159 million in 2025 – while Valerie Jarrett took home $740,000 and other Obama insiders collected $400,000 to $600,000 or more.

The result was benefit cuts and frozen raises for the workers at the bottom of the payroll.

The Obama Foundation had promised Chicago a $470 million endowment to protect taxpayers against a public bailout.

They've deposited $1 million – 0.2 percent of what they committed to.

Illinois taxpayers are already on the hook for tens of millions in infrastructure costs.

Obama called this building a "gift to Chicago" and locked up 19 acres of public Jackson Park for 99 years under a lease his foundation signed for $10 – ten dollars for nearly a century of control over some of the city's most valuable public land.

And before the doors even opened, multiple black-owned subcontractors the Obama Foundation had specifically promised to support came forward saying they were owed millions and facing financial ruin.

Adamson Plumbing owner Mike Owen went viral at the opening after telling Fox News his company had been "crushed" by the project – and days later shuttered the business, laid off 25 workers, and filed a $1.72 million mechanic's lien while pursuing nearly $4 million in total claims.

The president of the African American Contractors Association stood outside the center on Juneteenth – the day Obama threw his star-studded opening ceremony – and called it out.

"What sense is celebrating Juneteenth if our black contractors are not getting their money?"

Obama's foundation said the unpaid bills were someone else's problem.

The workers inside the building watched all of it and understood they were next.

Obama's presidential center put union campaign buttons on display in its museum and built a Worker Appreciation Wall honoring nearly 4,500 people who constructed the building.

The people running it then did exactly what every union in America was built to fight.

When Democrats run institutions, the speeches go to the workers and the money goes to the insiders.

Obama's foundation is the textbook case – union rhetoric on the website, executive suite salaries topping $740,000, and pay cuts for everyone below.

Obama built his entire political brand on being the worker's champion. His own employees just took him at his word.
