Former White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt joined Sean Hannity on Hang Out with Sean Hannity this week and dropped something the press corps would very much prefer stays buried.
She told Hannity that reporters regularly pulled her aside after briefings and apologized – in private – for the questions they had just asked her in public.
"There's a performative aspect to the briefing room," Leavitt said. "In fairness, I think on both sides, right? But definitely with the press, and they have to do that because their bosses are demanding it."
She continued: "There's been times reporters have even said to me, 'I'm sorry, I had to ask that today. You know, my bosses really wanted me to ask that.' They know it's an unfair question, but they're not in control of their own livelihood, they are dictated by the editors and the execs at some of these companies."
The reporters interrogating the Trump White House on camera knew the questions were unfair.
They said so – privately, to Leavitt herself.

This is not a minor revelation.
Every hostile question lobbed at Leavitt in the Brady Briefing Room got dressed up as accountability journalism and handed to the networks.

Leavitt Said She Only Ever Asked for Fairness From the Fake News Press
Leavitt was careful to say she never expected cheerleading coverage.
"We're not asking for like positive puff pieces every day," she told Hannity. "Just fairness, truth, accuracy, just telling a story or writing about factual information."
She noted positive movement at CBS specifically, saying she had seen big changes and "a lot of improvement" there.
The bar she described – accurately reporting an executive order the president signed, treating basic factual information as worthy of coverage – should not be controversial.
That it was controversial tells you everything about where the major networks stood during her time at the podium.
Leavitt served as the youngest White House press secretary in American history, returning to the briefing room after the birth of her second child before stepping down at the end of August.
Trump called her one of the best press secretaries in the history of the office and named her a top outside advisor and a leading voice in the Republican Party's push to hold Congress in November's midterms.

Media critics have pointed at editorial pressure for years as the real engine of newsroom bias – and Leavitt just handed them the clearest confirmation anyone inside that room has ever given.
