James Talarico Spent Months Playing Texas Cowboy and His Minister Just Ended the Act

James Talarico has been driving a pickup truck in his campaign ads to convince Texas he's one of them.

Now someone from inside his own church just went on camera about his real plan for Texas.

She made one guarantee about James Talarico that his campaign cannot walk back.

The Minister Who Heard Talarico Say "God Is Non-Binary" Has a Warning for Texas

James Talarico spent years in the Texas House building a record that would alarm most Texas voters.

He declared from the House floor that "God is non-binary" and that trans children are made in God's image while voting against every bill designed to keep boys out of girls' sports and block sex-change procedures on minors.

Then he went on a podcast and announced, unprompted, that what he loves most is "the trans children."

That record was going to be a problem in a state Trump won by nearly 14 points, so Talarico rebranded.

He put a pickup truck in his ads, showed up on Fox News to pledge support for banning gender surgeries on minors, and walked back the "God is non-binary" declaration – calling it "deliberately provocative"  – while casting himself as a moderate, a man of faith, an eighth-generation Texan who just wants to represent the people.

Then Rev. Babs Miller went on camera.

Miller has known James Talarico for years at St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church in Austin – the same church where Talarico once declared on the Texas House floor that "God is non-binary."

When an undercover journalist from The Daily Wire asked Miller about Republicans attacking Talarico over that statement, she had one word: "Duh."

She agreed with the theology and then explained what's actually happening.

"I can guarantee you that once he gets elected, he'll change his tune back to where he was," Miller said.

Miller – ordained as an openly lesbian chaplain at St. Andrew's since 2014 – was direct about the strategy Talarico is running between now and November.

"That's what his campaign has convinced him of," she said. "The Democratic Party is backing off on their stances on trans and all of this, and so his staff is encouraging him to kind of do the same thing, just for the next 50 weeks."

The Talarico Flip Flop His Undercover Video Makes Impossible to Deny

The voting record doesn't match the Fox News interview.

In 2021, Talarico voted against Senate Bill 29 – the Texas legislation requiring student athletes to compete according to the biological sex on their birth certificates.

In 2023, Talarico voted against Senate Bill 14 – the Texas law restricting sex-change surgeries on minors.

He cast those votes in the chamber where he served, then told Fox News this summer he "absolutely" supports banning the same procedures.

A second undercover video from The Daily Wire captured Texas Democrat Party organizer Jennifer Miranda laying out the strategy without apology.

"I would say right now he's trying to target a wider net, which unfortunately means being more palatable to Republicans here in Texas," Miranda said. "He really needs to win those Texans over."

The plan is to win first and govern later as the James Talarico who voted twice to put boys in girls' locker rooms.

In the Senate, that James Talarico would vote on federal legislation to codify transgender protections, block state-level surgery bans, and strip Title IX of its sex-based meaning — with a six-year term before voters could hold him accountable.

Texas Has Watched This Movie Before

Beto O'Rourke nearly beat Ted Cruz in 2018 while carefully moderating his language on guns, borders, and energy – then, during his presidential run, declared "Hell yes, we're going to take your AR-15."

The same Beto who once refused to call for a gun ban later called for confiscating the most popular rifle in America and championed open borders after running in Texas as a border pragmatist.

Texas Democrat candidates have been running this play for years – sound reasonable during the campaign, sprint left the moment it's over – and none of them have gotten close enough to govern.

What's different this time is that Talarico's own people are saying the quiet part on camera seven weeks before Election Day.

Cook Political Report rates the Texas Senate race a toss-up, which means the pickup truck ads are working and enough Texas voters haven't seen what Rev. Miller said on tape.

What Texans Are Actually Voting For

The Daily Wire has previously reported that St. Andrew's Presbyterian makes sexually explicit books available to children in its library – material containing graphic depictions of rape, incest, and oral sex.

Texans who pull the lever for the rebranded version won't be electing the man in the pickup truck – they'll be electing the man his own minister just guaranteed, the one who will "change his tune back" the moment the votes are counted.

Every conservative in Texas who looked at Talarico's Fox News interview and thought something was off was right.

Rev. Miller put it on camera. Texas voters should take her at her word.
