The Democratic Socialists of America's national co-chair went on national television and said her party wants to abolish the Senate.
Now her movement has nominees on the November ballot in Michigan, Colorado, Florida, and a dozen other states.
And Ron DeSantis had one warning for every Republican tempted to sit out November.
DSA Primary Wins 2026: Socialists Are on the Ballot in November
This is not a fringe protest movement anymore.
The Democratic Socialists of America have racked up primary victories in Michigan, Colorado, New York, Pennsylvania, Florida, and six other states since the 2026 primary season began.
The most stunning upset came in August when Florida state Rep. Angie Nixon defeated Alexander Vindman – the retired Army officer national Democrats spent $16 million promoting – on less than $1 million.
Nixon is a card-carrying DSA member who ran openly on abolishing ICE, ending U.S. military aid to Israel, and defunding the Pentagon.
DSA co-chair Megan Romer went on national television in July and confirmed the Senate abolition plank without apology.
According to the Washington Examiner, DSA-backed candidates have won more than 30 primaries in the 2026 cycle, with wins spread across state legislature races, congressional seats, and – for the first time – statewide offices.
Voters are starting to push back.
In Michigan, left-wing Democrat Abdul El-Sayed won the Senate nomination in a bruising primary over establishment-backed Rep. Haley Stevens – a race Democrats thought would be a layup in a Trump midterm year.
Instead, Cook Political Report rates it a toss-up.
An AARP poll conducted in late August found El-Sayed and Republican Mike Rogers running dead even in a state Trump won by just 2 points in 2024.
Democrats picked their most left-wing option and got a fight they didn't expect.
DeSantis Warns a Democrat Congress Means Two More Years of Attacking Trump
Florida Governor Ron DeSantis went on Hannity and told Republican voters exactly what a Democrat wave in November delivers.
"This is not your father's or grandfather's Democrat Party," DeSantis said. "This is very militant party now, and they can't be trusted with power."
Midterm elections historically swing toward the party out of power – and DeSantis knows Republican voters have real frustrations with their own side.
Republicans currently hold a 218-214 House majority and a 53-45 Senate advantage.
That's exactly what makes November dangerous.
"You don't want to swing toward the DSA," DeSantis said. "If you do that, you're swinging toward a group of people who are rejecting the founding principles of this country and are going to take our country in a direction that will be very difficult to recover from."
A DSA-controlled Congress would spend the final two years of Trump's presidency running wall-to-wall hearings against his administration – zero legislating, maximum obstruction.
"They're not going to do a single thing that will actually benefit the American people," DeSantis said.
The DSA Platform: Abolish the Senate, Open the Border, Defund the Pentagon
The DSA's official "Workers Deserve More" platform reads like a hostage note to the American founding.
Start with the Constitution itself: the platform calls for scrapping it entirely and replacing the presidency and the Supreme Court with executive and judicial bodies hand-picked by Congress.
On immigration, the agenda demands abolishing ICE, ending all deportations, legalizing all migration, and granting blanket amnesty to every illegal alien in the country regardless of criminal history.
The economic program adds a 32-hour workweek with no reduction in pay, universal rent control, Medicare for All with zero premiums or copays, and a Green New Deal that places energy and transportation under government control.
The defense plank calls for defunding the Pentagon and cutting all military and economic aid to Israel.
"You eliminate the Senate, and the whole Constitution goes out the window," DeSantis said.
Its primary winners – including the new mayor of the nation's largest city – ran on every word of it openly.
Republicans who stay home in November aren't punishing the Republican Party.
They're handing Trump's last two years to the people who wrote that platform – and the people running on it are already closer to power than Democrats ever intended.
"They can't be trusted with power," DeSantis said.
