AOC sat on national television Sunday and laughed off six years of radical left-wing destruction.
Gutfeld saw something in those two words that AOC clearly hoped nobody would notice.
The number she put after "Woke" just gave away everything about what the Left is planning next.
AOC Laughed Off Woke 1 and Pretended She Never Backed Defund the Police
Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez appeared on ABC's This Week to explain away the Left's decade of cultural carnage.
She laughed off a question about losing Wisconsin Democrat Gubernatorial candidate Francesca Hong demanding that Thanksgiving be canceled in 2020.
"Woke 1 was crazy," AOC said, quoting a city councilman and chuckling her way through six years of defund-the-police riots, sex-change surgeries on minors, and open-border disaster.
The walkback tour was supposed to look like self-awareness.
Greg Gutfeld was not buying a word of it.
On The Five, Gutfeld did what the entire mainstream press refused to do – he read the fine print.
"I had to ask, has there ever been a moment when, over time, progressivism got less progressive?" Gutfeld said. "At best, at least from my limited time on this Earth, I've only seen these tactical consolidations after prior gains – and then it always creates a new baseline, and that baseline becomes the new normal, and that's when you start the next leap forward."
Gutfeld saw it for what it was: a reload, not a retreat.
Gutfeld on Woke 2: The Left Is Already Building What Replaces It
Here is what AOC and every Democrat walkback artist are counting on: the Left has done this exact dance before.
Every generation, the Left retires the old label and issues a new one. The ideas get rebranded and the packaging changes but ideology stays the same.
Gutfeld walked through the ground the Left had already captured and normalized.
"Civil rights used to mean no Jim Crow," he said. "Now it means voter I.D. is racist."
"Criminal justice reform used to mean don't arrest people for smoking a joint," Gutfeld continued. "Now it's cut them loose if they beat a person senseless on the subway."
He went further.
"Environmentalists used to say give a hoot, don't pollute," Gutfeld said. "Now it's stop having kids and we should really think about banning AC."
Twenty years ago, no mainstream politician in America would touch the idea of surgically altering a healthy child's body to match a gender "identity."
Gutfeld went there too.
"Nobody would agree to that," he said. "Now, it's heroic to talk about" – and he noted pointedly that they always have to use a euphemism.
The euphemism for mutilating children is "gender affirmation."
Gutfeld also pulled out the receipts on immigration – the issue AOC and the Democrats now pretend was never their fault.
"If you look at clips of Hillary and Obama talking about immigration, they sound tougher than Trump 15–20 years ago," he said.
Then they built a new baseline and moved to the next frontier.
Gutfeld named the mechanism directly.
"Progressive ideology treats present-day events as provisional," he said. "Once reform is in place, it's not like we are done." The next frontier of injustice is already waiting.
"The distancing is a tactical pause," Gutfeld said. "It doesn't dial back. It waits, wins elections, ratchets forwards."
AOC appeared on ABC and laughed off the "Woke 1" era the same way someone laughs off a bad haircut from ten years ago.
But Gutfeld caught the tell.
If the Left is calling the last decade "Woke 1," there is only one reason they would give it a number.
"They call it Woke 1 probably because they just gave away the game that there's going to be a sequel – Woke 2," Gutfeld said. "It will be under a different name. Politically correct became woke, woke will become something else."
Conservative voters have seen this movie before. The Lefft does not retreat when it loses ground. It waits until the heat passes, rebrands, and comes back harder with a longer list of injustices to fix.
Gutfeld named it on The Five: the ratchet only turns one direction.
The Left is already building Woke 2. AOC told everyone so herself – she just forgot anyone was paying attention.
