Tim Walz let fraudsters steal $350 million from programs meant to feed children and never answered for it.
A California politician just made Walz look like an amateur.
Now Cal DOGE pulled the documents – and what they found inside is the last thing California’s leading Democrat gubernatorial candidate wanted made public.
CHIRLA Got $72 Million From California Taxpayers to Run This Campaign
CHIRLA – the Coalition for Humane Immigrant Rights of Los Angeles – runs almost entirely on California tax dollars.
IRS records show the organization pulled $34 million in government grants in a single fiscal year – nearly triple the $12 million it collected the year before.
Over time, California has pushed more than $72 million in taxpayer grants through CHIRLA's doors.
That money was supposed to fund legal aid and citizenship classes.
In April 2026, CHIRLA endorsed Xavier Becerra for governor and pledged to do "everything it can" to elect him.
A taxpayer-funded organization threw its full weight behind a political campaign.
Then Cal DOGE pulled the actual documents.
CHIRLA's own internal records state the organization uses illegal aliens to carry out political activity.
California Republican gubernatorial candidate Steve Hilton, a former Fox News host, stood outside CHIRLA's Santa Ana offices and delivered the bottom line.
"California taxpayers are funding an organization that uses illegal immigrants to campaign for Xavier Becerra."
A publicly funded nonprofit is deploying people with no legal right to be in this country to run political operations for a Democrat gubernatorial candidate – on your dime.
Becerra Ran Biden's HHS Into the Ground and Now He Wants to Run California
Xavier Becerra is not new to this machine.
He served as California Attorney General and then Biden's Secretary of Health and Human Services – a tenure so disastrous that border states sued his department 26 times.
His HHS oversaw the placement of unaccompanied migrant children with sponsors who turned out to be labor traffickers.
His department burned through billions on COVID programs riddled with fraud.
Now he's running for governor of a state carrying a $68 billion budget deficit.
His first major organizational endorsement comes from a group funded almost entirely by the 38 million people he wants to govern.
Hilton was direct about what Becerra is required to do.
"Xavier Becerra cannot continue to accept support from a taxpayer-funded organization employing illegal immigrants to campaign for him. He must stop this now."
He won't.
The machine doesn't work that way.
California Has Seen This Before – and It Cost Taxpayers Billions
CHIRLA is not an outlier. It's the template.
Jim Jordan launched a formal congressional inquiry into CHIRLA after Cal DOGE and PJ Media showed the organization tracking ICE raids in real time and deploying teams to interfere with federal immigration enforcement – all while cashing state government checks.
Josh Hawley opened a parallel Senate investigation.
The Trump administration terminated DHS grants to CHIRLA and clawed back $101,000 in unobligated funds.
A rounding error compared to the money still flowing.
The operation keeps expanding. AB 2624 – a bill CHIRLA sponsored – would make it a crime to photograph or identify employees of taxpayer-funded immigration organizations.
You paid for it. You just can't look at it.
Hilton called it exactly what it is.
"This is not just unacceptable and unethical and outrageous – a theft of taxpayer money for political purposes. It is illegal."
California Democrats Built a Taxpayer Funded Machine to Win Elections
Becerra is the candidate California Democrats rallied behind after Eric Swalwell's campaign imploded – and his first notable campaign activity is getting caught having illegal aliens run political operations for him through a group that taxpayers fund.
That's the machine in one sentence.
Taxpayers fund the nonprofit. The nonprofit campaigns for the Democrat. The Democrat wins and directs more money to the nonprofit. Repeat.
Trump defunded part of it. Cal DOGE is exposing the rest.
The only question left is whether Becerra is stupid enough to keep the endorsement.
