Hollywood liberals just can’t help themselves.
The public is tired of their wading into the culture war.
And a Marvel movie star stepped in it big time with what he just said about America.
Captain America actor under fire
Captain America: Brave New World – the latest installment in the Marvel Cinematic Universe – hits theaters on February 14.
The film stars Anthony Mackie as Sam Wilson, who took on the mantle of Captain America after Steve Rogers passed him the shield after Avengers: Endgame.
Marvel introduced Wilson – who was Captain America’s longtime sidekick The Falcon – as Captain America in the comics back in 2014 when Marvel replaced all their white male heroes – Wolverine, Thor, Hulk, Iron Man, and Captain America – with women and minority characters in an attempt to reinvigorate comic sales by turning the line into a woke virtue signaling catalog.
Unsurprisingly, none of the diversity replacements sold well, and the originals were back in short order.
But that didn’t stop Marvel from trying to ram Wilson’s Captain America down movie audiences throats.
Brave New World reportedly suffered from a troubled production and multiple rounds of reshoots due to poor test screenings.
Mackie did the film no favors when on the foreign press tour to promote the opening Mackie claimed the character of Captain America shouldn’t represent America.
“For me, Captain America represents a lot of different things and I don’t think the term, you know, ‘America’, should be one of those representations,” Mackie stated.
Mackie claimed Captain America was just any old virtuous guy and not the man who literally wore the stars and stripes on his chest.
“It’s about a man who keeps his word, who has honor, dignity, and integrity,” he explained. “Someone who is trustworthy and dependable,” Mackie added.
The movie was already tracking to take in a disappointing $95 million at the box office on opening weekend so damage control was in order.
And that’s exactly what Mackie tried to do in a post on Instagram.
“Let me be clear about this, I’m a proud American, and taking on the shield of a hero like CAP is the honor of a lifetime. I have the utmost respect for those who serve and have served our country,” Mackie wrote.
If Mackie didn’t do enough to alienate the half of America fed up with woke elites browbeating them about how America isn’t special, the contents of the film will.
One reason the movie underwent so many reshoots is that Disney executives realized the movie – which pits Mackie’s Captain America against Harrison Ford’s President of the United States, General Thaddeus “Thunderbolt” Ross, who turns into the Red Hulk – came across as an attack on Donald Trump.
“He’s this very powerful General who becomes kind of a fascist and turns into a raging Red Hulk. That was seen as an allusion to Trump,” the crew member told Vulture.
“Disney was realizing, ‘Hey, we’ve been bleeding for a while. Let’s try not to piss off our core base any more than we have been over the past couple of years,’” the crew member added.
