Joe Biden’s Presidency ends with pardoning his family
Former President Joe Biden set the record for most pardons and commutations issued by a Commander-in-Chief.
He denied for months that he was going to give Hunter Biden a pardon before the former President’s son received one of the most sweeping in history.
Biden gave preemptive pardons to five members of his family including his younger brother, James Biden, less than half an hour before President Donald Trump was inaugurated.
James Biden was allegedly involved in Hunter’s influence-peddling schemes in China.
Former Democrat chief counsel Julian Epstein cried foul on Biden’s pardons during an appearance on Fox Business.
He argued they were a part of the influence-peddling operation that his family ran rather than protecting them from the Trump Justice Department.
“Not just is it a smudge on his legacy, whatever legacy is left,” Epstein explained. “Because Biden lied about the pardons of his family members. It exposes the sanctimony of the Democratic rhetoric on the rule of law as hollow. “
Biden argued that no one was above the rule of law during the lawfare his Justice Department waged against Trump.
It was his family that was above the law in the end.
Biden’s pardons opened the door to Republican investigations
Epstein said that the pardons justified Congressional Republicans to continue investigating Biden and his family.
“But ultimately what the pardon of the family members does is it gives oxygen to the Republican argument that this is worthy of further investigation because what the pardon suggests, Liz, is a cover-up of an influence-peddling scheme,” Epstein told The Evening Edit host Liz MacDonald.
He claimed the pardons could have been used to cover up influence-peddling by the Biden family.
“There is nothing that stops Congress from doing an investigation, and there’s nothing that stops the Justice Department from doing an investigation as to whether the pardons themselves were part of a cover-up scheme,” Epstein stated.
Epstein noted that the Obama State Department warned then-Vice President Joe Biden that Hunter serving on the board of Ukrainian energy company Burisma was a serious conflict of interest.
“In 2016, Hunter Biden went back to the State Department, according to the New York Times, and looked for the State Department to arrange a sweetheart deal between the Italians and Burisma,” Epstein continued.
He said there was smoke to allegations of influence peddling by Hunter Biden.
“So, at a minimum, this is suggestive of an influence-peddling scheme of which we don’t know the details, but of which President Biden, who claims to be a very caring father, was at the elbow of his son while he was doing this,” Epstein explained. “What the pardon has done, Liz has added smoke to a set of circumstances that I think the Republicans have more credibility now in arguing that there should be further investigation. So I think this has made the situation much worse for Biden.
