California’s leadership has been in the headlines for all the wrong reasons.
The reality of what’s happening in the state is worse than anyone imagined.
And one awful secret about California being exposed left Gavin Newsom sweating bullets.
California uses “Indigenous knowledge” to fight wildfires
The Los Angeles wildfires exposed the sheer incompetence of California’s Democrat-controlled government at every level.
California Governor Gavin Newsom cut $100 million from the state budget for fire fighting and fire prevention.
Wildfires are a well-known risk in California that the state’s government should be prepared to tackle.
Democrats arrogantly claim that they’re the party of science and look down on Republicans as a bunch of rubes.
Former President Joe Biden and the California government ignored modern and effective firefighting techniques to turn to “indigenous knowledge” to combat blazes.
The Biden administration gave an order in November 2022 for federal agencies to use “Indigenous knowledge” in their “research, policy, and decision making.”
“Indigenous knowledge” was defined by officials as “a body of observations, oral and written knowledge, innovations, practices, and beliefs developed by Tribes and Indigenous Peoples through interaction and experience with the environment” that “is applied to phenomena across biological, physical, social, cultural and spiritual systems.”
The National Science Foundation spent millions of dollars under this directive in California to fight wildfires.
A grant from the National Science Foundation was used to create a “fire plan” through “interconnecting knowledge systems to advance the science and application of fire in ways that respect tribal sovereignty.”
To develop this new fire plan “a series of collaborative workshops and working group meetings” were held that “focused on interconnecting indigenous and western knowledge systems to create reciprocal relationships of exchange and center native protocol for data and knowledge use to develop effective solutions to altered wildfire regimes.”
There’s been no indication that this indigenous fire plan was effective.
California’s Department of Forestry and Fire Protection spent millions on programs based on indigenous knowledge over proven, modern techniques to fight fires.
Democrats put mumbo jumbo ahead of putting out fires
University of Southern California chemistry professor Anna Krylov told the Washington Free Beacon that the push to use dubious indigenous knowledge throws modern science out the window.
“This is extremely dangerous,” Krylov said. “When I conduct experiments, I need to follow the rules and procedures and think about safety. I have to keep track of what I’m doing. I’m not thinking about chants or dancing.”
A rain dance isn’t as effective as making sure that reservoirs are filled with millions of gallons of water to keep fire hydrants from running dry.
California Governor Gavin Newsom announced in April 2024 that the state’s Department of Forestry and Fire Protection would spend $100 million on tribal land projects with some incorporating indigenous knowledge.
“These awards are an acknowledgment of past sins, a promise of accountability, and a commitment to a better future – for the land and all its people, especially its original stewards,” Newsom said at the time. “Only through partnership with California Native American tribes can we address the climate and biodiversity crisis and build a healthier California.”
Los Angeles paid a heavy price for Democrats putting a premium on woke diversity initiatives over actual fire prevention.
