Nancy Pelosi just broke a major promise with this retirement decision

Nancy Pelosi finally revealed her decision on whether or not she would retire from Congress.

It was not what anyone was expecting.

And now, Nancy Pelosi just broke a major promise with this retirement decision.

On Tuesday, Nancy Pelosi released a video announcing her intention to run for re-election in 2022.

This decision was somewhat surprising in the sense that Pelosi promised to only serve two terms as Speaker of the House.

Pelosi made this promise in 2018 in order to wrangle the votes of Democrats to secure the position.

If Nancy Pelosi is running for re-election and the Democrats hold on to the majority, it is impossible to see Pelosi existing in Washington, D.C. as a rank-and-file back beck member of the House Democrat Caucus.

Should Democrats maintain control of the House, Nancy Pelosi will no doubt be in leadership again.

But this announcement for re-election may also not be all it’s cracked up to be.

It is widely expected that Republicans will oust the Democrats from power in the House of Representatives this November.

Should that happen, there is nothing preventing Nancy Pelosi from retiring after the election and leaving Congress.

In fact, that is the most likely scenario.

Nancy Pelosi had to announce she was running for re-election.

When House Speaker Paul Ryan called it quits ahead of the 2018 midterm it was essentially conceding the election to Democrats.

Pelosi knows better than that.

So even if Pelosi intended to walk away from Congress after the November election, she had to announce she was running for another term just for the sake of party unity ahead of the midterms.
