Is Donald Trump really planning to run for re-election in 2024?
It was widely assumed that was the case.
But now Megyn Kelly revealed the crazy reason Donald Trump won’t run for President in 2024.
On a recent episode of her podcast, Megyn Kelly interviewed the co-hosts of the establishment-aligned Ruthless podcast.
Naturally, the topic of whether former President Donald Trump would run again in 2024 came up.
Kelly claimed a former high-level Republican National Committee official told her that Trump was not planning to run in 2024, but Trump was holding off making any announcement because the RNC was still paying his legal bills.
“Now, let me run this by you,” Kelly began. “Talked to a guy, used to be high up in the RNC, right? And he said, Trump’s not gonna run again. Trump just can’t say that he’s not gonna run again.”
“He said he would never declare anyway, because as soon as he declares, like right?” she continued. “If he were to declare tomorrow, on the chance that he is gonna run again the RNC could no longer pay his legal bills.”
Kelly said that once Trump declared his intentions, the RNC would have to stop paying his legal bills because the committee has to stay neutral in a contested primary.
But Kelly also claimed that the RNC official told her Trump was not planning on running because of uncertainty over whether he could win or not.
“They couldn’t support him with his legal bills because the RNC has to stay neutral,” Kelly explained. “So they can’t be funding one guy’s legal bills. So that — I thought that was kind of interesting that, like, Trump will have to delay if he’s going to announce that he’s running as long as humanly possible, cause he’s got a lot of legal bills, but it was this guy’s strong belief that he will not run again, that he’s too worried about losing.”
One of the co-hosts of the Ruthless Podcast – the online conservative Twitter pundit nicknamed “Comfortably Smug” – contradicted Kelly, telling her the RNC stopped paying Trump’s legal bills long ago.
“Well, to my understanding, I think the RNC has stopped paying those bills,” Comfortably Smug responded. “I think it was, unfortunately, right around the time that this latest, you know, case against Trump came up right before — that is when I think some kind of like time period lapse or whatever, the RNC’s no longer paying for his attorneys, that it’s now being paid by the outside group that Trump manages.”
The status of Donald Trump’s potential 2024 campaign will shape both parties’ fields.
What Trump decides will impact which Republicans run for office, as well as what Joe Biden decides.
