Democrats scored shocking wins in Virginia, New Jersey, and New York City by hammering Trump on affordability.
The fake news media keeps pushing the narrative that prices are crushing Americans.
But JD Vance just outsmarted every Democrat with one strategic move that exposes their con game.
Vance deploys secret weapon Democrats never saw coming
Vice President JD Vance hits Pennsylvania next week as part of a nationwide tour selling Trump's economic wins heading into the 2026 midterms.
Trump kicked off the tour in Wilkes-Barre on Tuesday, with Vance appearing in Allentown on December 16.
New Jersey Governor-elect Mikie Sherrill and Virginia Governor-elect Abigail Spanberger won by claiming Americans can't afford basic necessities.
Socialist Zohran Mamdani captured New York City's mayoralty with the same lie.
Here's what they won't tell voters.
Gas prices plummeted to four-year lows — Americans will spend less of their disposable income on gas than any time in two decades.¹
Egg prices crashed after Biden's inflation sent them soaring.
Mortgage rates dropped 12% since Trump took office.²
And the Big Beautiful Bill delivers historic tax cuts Americans feel next April — no tax on tips, no tax on Social Security, massive relief for working families.
Democrats created the crisis under Biden, now campaign on fixing what they broke while ignoring Trump's success.
That's where Vance becomes the secret weapon.
He grew up dirt poor in Ohio's Rust Belt watching his family struggle when prices spiked.
That background gives him credibility to sell Trump's story in a way that connects with voters who remember Biden's inflation pain.
"My message to the American people who are still feeling like things are unaffordable is, look, we get it and we hear you," Vance said. "But as much progress as we've made, it's going to take a little bit of time for every American to feel that economic boom."³
Trump exposes the Democrat con job
The President has been even more direct.
"The word affordability is a Democrat scam," Trump said during a Cabinet meeting. "They say it, and then they go into the next subject and everyone thinks they had lower prices."⁴
He's right.
Democrats caused 40-year-high inflation through reckless spending that sent gas to record highs, drove groceries up 49%, and made mortgages unaffordable.⁵
Trump began to reverse the damage.
Gas dropped below $3 per gallon in 36 states — below $2.50 in five states, with some stations hitting $1.98.⁶
Shelter inflation hit a four-year low as median rent fell for four straight months.⁷
Real wages are growing again after Biden destroyed worker purchasing power.
Democrats respond by claiming Trump isn't doing enough, a con designed to make voters forget who caused the crisis.
Vance sells Trump's wins while acknowledging some Americans haven't felt the full benefits yet.
Give people someone who understands their concerns before asking them to trust the solution.
That's why Vance is the perfect messenger.
Big Beautiful Bill delivers relief Democrats can't match
Republicans hold the ultimate trump card heading into midterms.
Tax cuts from Trump's Big Beautiful Bill kick in when Americans file returns next April.
Millions of workers see bigger refunds from no tax on tips.
Seniors keep more Social Security.
Working families get substantial relief across the board.
Real money in real pockets as the midterm campaign heats up.
Democrats can't compete with that.
They have no plan beyond complaining and hoping voters forget Biden caused the problem.
"President Trump has made enormous strides reversing the affordability crisis left behind by Democrats," a Vance spokesperson said. "The benefits of the Trump economic agenda have only begun to kick in."⁸
Democrats proved affordability messaging works when they swept Virginia, New Jersey, and New York in November.
But they sold a lie.
Trump's team sells results — falling gas prices, declining mortgages, historic tax cuts, an economy roaring back.
The question is whether Republicans break through the media filter.
Congressional Republicans worry the party isn't countering Democrat propaganda effectively.
"If we don't do that, we would be morons, because the economy is very much on people's minds," Representative Tony Gonzales told NBC News.⁹
Senator Josh Hawley warned Republicans need to deliver results voters can feel.
"People aren't dumb," Hawley said. "They know when they go to the grocery store what it costs."¹⁰
Fair point.
Hawley should also acknowledge what voters see at the pump — four-year low prices.
What they see in mortgage statements — rates down 12% in under a year.
What they'll see in tax returns — the biggest middle-class tax cut in history.
Vance's Pennsylvania swing represents Trump's counter-offensive against Democrat lies.
If he convinces swing voters that Trump delivered real wins while Democrats just complain, Republicans hold their majorities.
The next 11 months determine whether voters reward Trump's results or fall for Democrat deception.
Vance is betting Americans are smart enough to know who crashed the economy and who's fixing it.
