The Democrats are stewing in a cauldron of stupidity.
No proposal is too outrageous for the new “woke” Democrat Party.
And Fox News host Greg Gutfeld ripped one dumb Democrat proposal to shreds in this epic takedown.
Democrats are pushing hard for student loan debt to be eliminated.
While higher education has largely become a scam, the taxpayers shouldn’t be the ones footing the bill.
If anyone is going to wipe out student loan debt, it should be the universities with hundreds of millions – and even tens of billions – in endowment coffers.
But leftists don’t want the universities to pay – they want people in middle America to pay.
That’s when Greg Gutfeld went off on the socialist members of the Squad in Congress.
Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez said, “I have over $17,000 in student loan debt . . . We have a moral obligation, an economic obligation, a political obligation to cancel student loan debt.”
According to Ocasio-Cortez, who makes $174,000 a year plus untold sums of cash by monetizing her large social media following, it is immoral of taxpayers – many of whom didn’t go to college – not to pay her bills.
This is asinine, and Gutfeld called it out as such.
Gutfeld argued:
“If I pay your debt, then you gotta pay my mortgage. How is that for a trade, numbnuts? Why do you get a special carve-out and not me? You actually have more power than I do. You got the privilege and now you want the perks. How about returning that dress you wore to the gala? That’s 20k right there. So, we don’t owe you a single penny.”
Fellow squad member Rashida Tlaib chimed in.
She also wants the taxpayers to cancel her debt.
Tlaib said, “I worked full time, Monday through Friday, and took weekend classes to get my law degree, and still, close to $200,000 in debt.”
Gutfeld responded:
“Whose fault is that, you brimming cup of piping hot stupid? If she could work hard to get her degree, why can’t she work hard to pay for her degree? […] And now you expect us to wipe that financial slate clean? She makes $174,000 a year off taxpayers, and for her, that’s not enough.”
Meanwhile, leftists want free community college, so they want taxpayers to wipe the slate clean and be on the hook for more college tuition.
The government has completely distorted higher education by securing student loans and trapping borrowers into backing them back no matter what.
If student loans were no longer secured by the government, the absurd tuition problems would self-correct quickly.
The main reason for the absurd tuition hikes is the rise of administrators.
The New York Times reports:
“[A]n analysis by a professor at California Polytechnic University, Pomona, found that, while the total number of full-time faculty members in the C.S.U. system grew from 11,614 to 12,019 between 1975 and 2008, the total number of administrators grew from 3,800 to 12,183 — a 221 percent increase.”
And the growth of administrators has continued over the past 13 years.
If the Squad wants to tackle the student loan problem, they’re looking in the wrong place.
