The left-wing meltdown over Tesla CEO Elon Musk purchasing Twitter is about to reach a scary new level.
As usual, it involves Donald Trump.
And Elon Musk is going to drive leftists crazy with this announcement about Trump.
Elon Musk promised to make Twitter a platform that promotes free speech.
And at the Financial Times Future of the Car conference, Musk took one step toward making good on that promise that by announcing once his purchase of Twitter was complete he would restore Donald Trump’s Twitter account.
Musk explained that he did not believe in permanently banning users and that Twitter suspending Trump was a mistake.
“I think it was a morally bad decision to be clear and foolish in the extreme,” Musk announced. “I do think it was not correct to ban Donald Trump, I think that was a mistake . . . It alienated a large part of the country and did not ultimately result in Donald Trump not having a voice.”
“I guess the answer is I would reverse the perma-ban,” Musk added.
Twitter co-founder and former CEO Jack Dorsey agreed, saying that permanent bans don’t work and except for very special circumstances should never be used.
“I do agree. There are exceptions (CSE, illegal behavior, spam or network manipulation, etc), but generally permanent bans are a failure of ours and don’t work, which I wrote about here after the event (and called for a resilient social media protocol),” Dorsey posted on social media in response to Musk’s announcement about restoring Trump’s account.
But will Trump return to Twitter?
Last month, Trump told CNBC he only planned to use his own social media platform TRUTH Social.
“No, I won’t be going back on Twitter,” Trump told CNBC.
“I will be on TRUTH Social within the week. It’s on schedule. We have a lot of people signed up. I like Elon Musk. I like him a lot. He’s an excellent individual. We did a lot for Twitter when I was in the White House. I was disappointed by the way I was treated by Twitter. I won’t be going back on Twitter,” Trump continued.
The Left is losing its monopoly on censorship.
Even if Trump never returns to Twitter, Musk is laying ground rules to end the practice of allowing left-wing journalists and activists to hector Twitter management into permanently censoring their opposition.
