Democrat-run cities are facing the consequences of “defunding the police”

Major cities across the country are facing a dire threat.

Crime rates are jumping after a year of Black Lives Matter riots and looting.

And now Democrat-run cities are facing the consequences of “defunding the police.”

The Fake News Media loves to push the narrative that there’s an epidemic of innocent young African-Americans getting viciously killed by evil, out-of-control police officers.

The statistics tell a completely different story.

According to an op-ed published by Ronald J. Allen, a law professor for Northwestern University,  in The Washington Examiner, “there is indeed a slaughter going on, but not at the hands of police.”

Allen goes on to report that on average, about 1,000 people are killed by police each year. This number stays fairly constant with slight variation.

In fact, in every year between 2016 and 2020, more white people were shot and killed by police, despite having fewer interactions with law enforcement on average.

However, the statistics for homicides and violent crime have skyrocketed this past year alone.

“From 2015 to 2019, the number of homicides each year varied from about 15,00 to 17,00, but in 2020, the number skyrocketed to more than 20,000,” according to Allen.

This increase in homicides in 2020 has to do with considerably less policing due to the “Defund the Police” movement.

In cities like Minneapolis and Chicago, police departments have rolled back the number of patrols and engagement with high-crime communities, and crime rates spiked.

Allen cites data compiled by researchers Paul Cassell and Richard Fowles, who found the reduction in policing is immediately followed by violent crime:

For example, the number of murders [in Chicago] increased from 480 in 2015 to 754 in 2016. Controlling for numerous variables, they determined: ‘Because of fewer stops in 2016, it appears that (conservatively calculating) approximately 245 additional victims were killed and 1,108 additional shootings occurred in that year alone.’”

It’s clear that more policing, not less, is what curbs violent crime.

The radical Left’s pipedream of having “social workers” take over certain responsibilities from the police is irresponsible and frankly dangerous to both the authorities and the communities they serve.
