The Pennsylvania Senate race is turning into a nightmare for Democrats.
Their candidate, John Fetterman, turned in the most disastrous debate performance in the history of politics.
Now CNN was forced to admit one thing about John Fetterman that has Democrats seeing red.
Heading into the debate, Pennsylvania Democrat Senate candidate John Fetterman’s campaign claimed Fetterman dealt with auditory issues following a stroke in May that Fetterman only later admitted nearly killed him.
That’s why the campaign said Fetterman required special closed captioning transcription software for his debate with Republican Dr. Mehmet Oz.
But that was clearly not the case.
Fetterman struggled to form thoughts and translate that into spoken words.
CNN medical analyst Dr. Jonathan Reiner admitted that Fetterman suffered from a neurological injury.
“He’s had an injury to his brain in the area that helps someone process speech,” Dr. Reiner explained. “So, most people have thought that Mr. Fetterman’s injury was how he processed sound, which is why they gave him the prompter. But what was really apparent last night was that he has expressive aphasia. It’s a really common injury in people who have had a stroke.”
Host Jake Tapper asked if Dr. Reiner could diagnose Fetterman, and Dr. Reiner said he could not beyond that fact that Fetterman had a “significant” brain injury.
“I know how much work it takes to recover and I admire Mr. Fetterman’s determination to do that, but he obviously had a significant neurological injury,” Dr. Reiner continued.
Dr. Reiner then called out the Fetterman campaign for lying about the candidate’s condition back in May.
“It is hard to know,” Reiner said. “Part of the problem is that, you know, the campaign was opaque at the very beginning. They didn’t really disclose the degree of his illness. We don’t really know how sick he was. In fact, his treating physicians were never made available to the press or the public, so we don’t really know how much Mr. Fetterman has actually recovered.”
“There is no sin in having a stroke,” he continued. “There’s a lot of honor in the dogged determination that it takes to recover, and I admire that. What I don’t admire is the way sort of the campaign has handled the disclosure of his illness.”
Fetterman’s campaign was hoping their candidate could skate through the debate.
But what the debate exposed – beyond the fact that Fetterman is clearly impaired – is the fact that the campaign hid the truth about the seriousness of the stroke and how debilitated Fetterman really was from the public.
And even CNN had to call out the Democrat for those lies.
