AOC got caught whining about one problem that will have taxpayers fuming

Members of Congress love to complain about how hard their lives are.

One Democrat lawmaker just proved that yet again.

And AOC got caught whining about one problem that will have taxpayers fuming.

Congress members feast on taxpayer dime while claiming poverty

A bombshell investigation just exposed exactly how Congress members live while crying poor.

Since 2019, taxpayers shelled out $30 million for Congress members' on-call doctor who provides routine care for just $650 a year.¹

That same doctor would charge regular Americans thousands for the same service.

House members and staff also enjoy subsidized daycare starting at $1,100 a month in one of America's most expensive cities for childcare.²

The daycare center alone cost taxpayers at least $10 million since 2019.³

But the real feast happens at mealtime where Congress spent $30 million on food and beverages, plus $4.1 million just on bottled water since 2019.⁴

House leadership and the Republican conference burned through $122,000 on Chick-fil-A alone over six years.⁵

Former Rep. Steven Palazzo (R-MS) led individual offices by ordering nearly $15,000 in chicken sandwiches and chips.⁶

The investigation by The Center Square analyzed 3 million lines of House spending data and found members living like royalty on the taxpayers' dime.

David Williams, president of the Taxpayers Protection Alliance, couldn't believe the spending numbers.

"It's not Congress valuing their employees, it's the taxpayer paying for this," Williams told The Center Square. "It's easy to spend someone else's money."⁷

AOC complains lawmakers need pay raises despite lavish perks

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez has been whining for years that Congress members' $174,000 salary isn't enough.⁸

The New York Democrat thinks lawmakers deserve a massive pay raise even though she knows Americans disagree with her.

"I've been saying this for some time," Ocasio-Cortez told Business Insider. "I think he's right. I know it's kind of a contrarian position."⁹

Rep. Patrick McHenry (R-NC) also pushed for higher Congressional pay before his retirement.

"McHenry believes member pay itself needs to increase in order to incentivize 'credible people to run for office that want to serve the public and to be effective legislators,'" The Dispatch reported.¹⁰

Ocasio-Cortez argued that higher pay would reduce corruption and open Congress to working-class Americans.

"If we want working-class people who don't rely on independent wealth, to represent people in Congress, we have to make it work," Ocasio-Cortez claimed.¹¹

She complained that members need residences in both Washington and their home districts.

Ocasio-Cortez previously lamented the "insane" cost of being a Congresswoman on Instagram despite her substantial salary.

"It's insanely expensive, there is no stipend or per diem for it, and you're not allowed to write it off even though your job forces you to have it," Ocasio-Cortez wrote.¹²

The Democrat Socialist earns $174,000 per year, which puts her in the top 5% of income earners in America.¹³

Members haven't received a cost-of-living raise since 2009 because Congress votes every year to block the automatic increase.¹⁴

If Congressional salaries kept pace with inflation, they would make over $250,000 now.¹⁵

But polling shows Americans have zero sympathy for Congress members wanting more money.

"People who make great contributions to America don't do it for the money," Rep. Ro Khanna (D-CA) told Business Insider.¹⁶

Congress spends millions on publications while cutting citizen benefits

The same Congress crying poverty spent $14 million on Politico subscriptions alone since 2019.¹⁷

Bloomberg received nearly $13 million in taxpayer funds for Congressional subscriptions.¹⁸

CQ Roll Call got $5.4 million while the National Journal collected $2.5 million.¹⁹

Punchbowl News received $1.5 million and the New York Times got about $870,000.²⁰

Williams questioned why Congress needs to spend tens of millions on publications when Americans struggle to afford basics.

"There's got to be a happy medium here," Williams said. "There's got to be a way where Congress can still remain informed, whether it's Politico, Roll Call or whatever, but not spend tens of millions of dollars."²¹

Since 2019, taxpayers paid roughly $88 million for publications and reference materials for House members and staff.²²

This spending comes while Congress debates cutting Social Security, Medicare, and other benefits for regular Americans.

The hypocrisy is staggering.

Gillian Mason, executive director of Healthcare-NOW, blasted Congress for enjoying taxpayer-funded healthcare while Americans suffer.

"One of the reasons it is so difficult to push health care reform for regular people is our reps and senators aren't seeing the full force of what is happening out there because they're isolated," Mason told The Center Square.²³

"They like their publicly funded health care… but won't give it to anyone else," Mason added.²⁴

Each House member gets about $2 million per year through their Members' Representational Allowance to run their offices.²⁵

The spending jumped 21% in 2022 alone after years of increases.²⁶

Congress exempts itself from Freedom of Information Act requests, making it nearly impossible for taxpayers to see exactly where their money goes.²⁷

Senate spending increased 96% between 1996 and 2023, with a 20% jump in 2002 and an additional 16% between 2019 and 2023.²⁸

Mason said lawmakers are disconnected from regular Americans because of their cushy perks.

"Don't sit in your ivory tower judging the system based on what you're experiencing and your constituents aren't getting the same care," Mason told The Center Square.²⁹

Congress members live like kings while AOC and others have the nerve to complain they need even more taxpayer money.
