Dr. Anthony Fauci thought he was headed into a quiet retirement.
He was hit with a nasty surprise he never saw coming.
And Anthony Fauci was groaning after this colossal blunder was brought to light.
The pandemic revealed that public health bureaucrats led by former director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) Dr. Anthony Fauci funneled taxpayer money to labs in Wuhan, China.
The federal government funded the infamous Wuhan Institute of Virology to carry out risky gain-of-function research – the process of intentionally making a virus more deadly and contagious in order to supposedly study how to stop it – that could have sparked the pandemic.
Now, another scandal involving the Wuhan lab is brewing after an investigator discovered the controversial lab could have stolen money from the U.S. government.
According to a report from CBS News, the federal government may have been double billed for the dangerous gain-of-function research it funded at the Chinese lab.
Diana Cutler is a former federal investigator who has more than twenty years of experience dealing with healthcare fraud and white-collar crime.
Senator Roger Marshall (R-KS) hired Cutler to investigate grants from the federal government that were sent to Communist China to fund risky research before the pandemic.
“What I’ve found so far is evidence that points to double billing, potential theft of government funds,” Cutler said. “It is concerning, especially since it involves dangerous pathogens and risky research.”
Senator Marshall supplied her with 50,000 documents from the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) for her investigation.
The federal government may have been double charged by the Communist Chinese lab for medical supplies and equipment, salaries, and travel for staff.
Tens of millions of taxpayer dollars could have been stolen from the double billing by the Chinese.
After the bombshell discovery by Cutler, the Biden regime isn’t denying that the massive fraud took place.
Sources told CBS News that the regime doesn’t dispute the network’s reporting.
An inspector general for USAID wouldn’t comment on the report because of “the existence of a specific open investigation.”
Marshall said that a commission needs to be set up to investigate the potential fraud.
“I think there’s 1.1 million reasons that American taxpayers should care,” he said. “You’ll have a plane crash. We want to find out why the plane crashes. We go to any lengths to do that, and the hope is we don’t have another plane crash for the same reason.”
Not only could the Wuhan lab be behind the COVID pandemic, but they also could have been ripping off the federal government in the process.
The discovery comes while Dr. Anthony Fauci is in more trouble for his role in trying to discredit the theory that the COVID virus escaped from Wuhan lab.
A recent report found that Fauci commissioned a scientific research paper for the sole purpose of discrediting the lab leak theory in February 2020.
In April of that same year, Dr. Fauci cited that very report at White House press conference in order to dismiss the lab leak theory – all while acting as though he didn’t know the authors he handpicked to conduct the “study.”
The potential fraud by the Wuhan lab is going to be another major headache for Anthony Fauci to deal with.
